📢 Alessandra Mondolfi: Inspiring Action Through Advocacy
🗽 The movement for who we are and what we represent is happening now.
On Friday, I learned of the passing of Alessandra Mondolfi, a fearless advocate and artist whose passion and dedication touched many lives. Pictured here, Alessandra was a force to be reckoned with—her art and activism ignited conversations and inspired action. If you had the privilege of meeting her, you knew how deeply she cared and how tirelessly she fought for justice and equality.
Our paths crossed often in South Florida as we stood together advocating for women’s rights, immigrant rights, and accountability for Trump 1.0. Today, instead of my usual post, I’m sharing these photos to honor her legacy and remind us of the transformative power of love and advocacy.
Alessandra showed up—always—to hold leaders accountable, fight for justice, and uplift the vulnerable.
I hope these photos reignite your passion for advocacy, people power, and protecting the most vulnerable in our communities. These photos also show the power of the people and what happens when a small determined group show up and speak out for the most vulnerable in our community.
During Trump 1.0, I joined Alessandra and others on different occasions to support the children affected by the Trump administration's cruel family separation policy.
Family separation was a Trump-era policy that forcibly separated thousands of children from their parents at the U.S.-Mexico border as part of a "zero tolerance" immigration approach. Many children were sent to detention facilities, often without clear plans for reunification, causing widespread trauma and condemnation.
At Homestead Air Force Base in Florida, over 3,000 children were detained. Alessandra and others formed a circle of protection, monitoring the facility from outside the fence, documenting what they observed, and offering small gestures of comfort by waving to the children during their brief outdoor breaks. I had the opportunity to join at different times to bring attention to what was happening and support the fierce crew that stayed on the premises.
Several marches took place near Homestead to draw attention to the situation, and Alessandra was always there with her bold, eye-catching signs.
We also took action across South Florida; here we are in Broward, working to raise awareness about the detention center there.

I love seeing this photo of Senator Warren visiting the Homestead camp. We pressed her and other candidates to come see the children and witness the situation firsthand. Senator Warren was the first of several to visit and publicly denounce what was happening.
This was the first time I connected with Alessandra as we marched by Mar-a-Lago. She was a force for accountability and justice.
With so much happening with Trump coming into the presidency again and even more challenges ahead, it's comforting to think that Alessandra's spirit will continue watching over the most vulnerable here on earth. Go in peace, my friend. You will be deeply missed.
