America be brave, because you are.
Real courage is doing the right thing when nobody's looking. Doing the unpopular thing because it's what you believe, and the heck with everybody. ― Justin Cronin
I have seen your bravery in our communities.
For over two years, I had the honor of joining the Circle of Protection in front of ICE Miramar, and I saw the courage of activists fighting with ICE agents to extend simple rights to folks standing in line. Water, shade, bathrooms- every week, it was a battle. When I joined the busloads of students and parents who traveled to Tallahassee to advocate for gun safety reforms after our losses at Parkland, I saw bravery. When I traveled to Utah to nudge Senator Romney to vote for impeaching Trump, I saw community members come out to protest in a city where I was told, "We don't do that here." I saw bravery. When I joined thousands to march and protest in front of the Supreme Court after the fall of Roe V. Wade, I saw bravery. America is brave because you are. And we need that bravery now more than ever.
America and the world need a strong America with solid leadership. Unfortunately, the House GOP conference can't seem to do its job. New reporting is showing that this is the worst House session ever. Although Republicans hold the majority, they have done little for the American people. They are now on track to be the "Least Productive Congress Since The Great Depression." No surprise there; they are incompetent, greedy, petulant, and I could go on.
We are all responsible for what is happening. Loss of our freedoms and rights have come from years of "it's not my problem," "I don't have time," "things never change," or "my efforts won't make a difference." Friendly reminder: most people in America do not vote (they can't be bothered). We all have disregarded the corruption we have seen for far too long, and we are now seeing it emboldened (looking at you, Clarence Thomas, George Santos, and Bob Menendez).
As champions for progress, we must double down in love. This holiday season, I encourage everyone (myself included) to renourish our spirits. Next year will be a battle for our rights and freedoms, so please take time this next month to recharge, renew, and recommit to our core mission at People Power United:
Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and be afforded housing, healthcare, and education.
Regardless of whether you have a job or not. Regardless of your age, race, sex, or religion.
Additionally, we all deserve clean air and water and a community safe from gun violence.
Love never gives up.
It will be our people power, determination, and love that will help us tackle racism, xenophobia, islamophobia, antisemitism, homophobia, misogyny, ageism, ableism, elitism, sizeism, and bigotry.

I believe in the power of the people. People Power United members believe in the possibility of change and work to make it happen. I have seen the love and determination of folks stepping up to write letters and postcards to voters, signing petitions and letter campaigns, making calls, sending texts, hitting doors, and dropping literature. There is no power like that of the people, and People Power United stands ready to protect our communities against any and all injustices. - Laurie Woodward Garcia, People Power United
