🗽When the presidency becomes a pay-to-play crypto scheme, it’s up to people power to call out corruption and demand a government that serves us—not enriches him.
Is Donald Trump working for the American people—or is he using the presidency as a platform to gain more power and enrich himself?
That’s not a rhetorical question. It’s one of the defining issues of our time.
“The president can’t have a conflict of interest.”
That’s what Trump said. Literally.
“The law’s totally on my side, the president can’t have a conflict of interest,” he declared while defending his decision to stay connected to his business empire (NYT, 2016).
This isn’t just arrogance—it’s a direct assault on democratic accountability. Even before he took office, the Office of Government Ethics made it clear that only full divestiture would resolve his conflicts of interest. He refused then. He refuses now.
And according to Trump’s enablers, this is all just business as usual.
He is now so confident in his own impunity that he’s “wearing his corruption on his sleeve” (NYT Opinion, 2025).
The very institutions with a constitutional duty to check a criminal president have repeatedly folded rather than hold Trump accountable (The Nation, 2025). The Supreme Court has expanded presidential immunity, and Republicans in Congress continue to refuse to investigate the shady financial dealings that now define Trump’s presidency.
But this isn’t just about Trump.
It’s about us—and whether we still believe that public office should serve the people, not the president’s wallet.
Are we witnessing the most blatant self-dealing and corruption in modern American history by a sitting U.S. president?
In just the first few months of Trump’s second term, at least $2 billion has flowed to his businesses. That’s billion with a “B”—just since January 2025 (The New York Times, 2025).
This comes on top of his first term, when Trump’s businesses brought in $2.4 billion, profiting from hotels, resorts, and licensing deals while he held the presidency (Forbes, 2021).
Yes, you read that right: Trump raked in $2.4 billion during his first four years—and another $2 billion in just the first seven months of his second term.
And now, while on the job—supposedly representing our country, our families, our communities—President Trump is expanding into crypto.
“Most outrageously, he has repeatedly pushed crypto as a means of buying direct access to him. $Trump, a meme coin launched three days before his inauguration, has recently soared, thanks to the president inviting 220 of its top investors to dine with him in what he called the ‘most EXCLUSIVE INVITATION in the world.’ That ploy led to a windfall—investors spent nearly $150 million buying the president’s meme coin.” (New Republic, 2025)
“A new report estimates the president’s crypto holdings now represent nearly 40% of his net worth, or approximately $2.9 billion (£2.1bn).” (Sky News, 2025)
“Nearly two dozen crypto wallets acquired more than 100,000 $TRUMP meme coins, worth roughly $100 million, after its promoters said top buyers could join the president for dinner.” (Washington Post, 2025)
So let’s be honest:
Is a sitting U.S. president selling access—in the form of crypto coins—to the highest bidder?
Who Is Trump Really Representing?
Trump and his allies claim he’s just a savvy businessman. But when his policies consistently benefit his private empire—while harming everyday Americans—we have to ask: Is this leadership or exploitation?
How much of Trump’s time is spent serving the nation versus serving his own bottom line?
During his first term, Trump signed into law the largest tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations in U.S. history, leaving working families with crumbs and ballooning the national deficit (ProPublica, 2021). Now he’s at it again—pushing for more tax breaks for the ultra-rich while slashing funding for education, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, veterans’ services, and programs millions of Americans rely on.
Just look at the recently passed “BIG UGLY NOT BEAUTIFUL BILL”—a Trump-backed budget that “will add $3.4 trillion to the deficit and cause more than 10 million people to lose health insurance” (Medicare Rights, 2025).
Meanwhile, his personal business interests keep expanding. As The New York Times reported, “Qatar chipped in to help finance a Trump-branded beachside golf and luxury villa project in the country worth $5.5 billion” (NYT, 2025).Are these actions illegal? Maybe. But more importantly: Are they befitting the office of the President?
Senators Elizabeth Warren and Jeff Merkley called Trump’s crypto dealings a “staggering conflict of interest” and warned that the scheme could “violate the Constitution and open our government to a startling degree of foreign influence” (Sky News, 2025; Banking Committee, 2025).
And it doesn’t stop there.
Trump also “shuttered a Department of Justice unit devoted to investigating [crypto’s] use in fraud, money laundering, tax-avoidance schemes, and other crimes—all actions that benefit his own increasing financial stake in the industry” (New Republic, 2025).
And when a nonpartisan government employee simply does her job by reporting updated jobs numbers under Trump, what does he do? He smears her with baseless accusations of rigging the data—then fires her (Politico, 2025).
Then there’s the jumbo jet from the Qatari government. Trump plans to transfer it to his presidential library foundation at the end of his term—effectively allowing him to continue using it after leaving office (New Republic, 2025). When questioned about the blatant conflict of interest, Trump spokesperson Karoline Leavitt claimed: “[They] know President Trump, and they know he only works with the interests of the American public in mind” (Washington Post, 2025).
Excuse me? How is a luxury jet Trump gets to keep using in my best interest?
So again, whose interests are truly being served here?
Let’s not forget: even the Office of Government Ethics told Trump back in 2016 that only a full divestment from his businesses would resolve these conflicts. He refused (NYT, 2016).
And he's still refusing.
Last week, this happened: “Trump opens new golf course in Scotland, capping trip to promote his luxury properties” (PBS, 2025). And while abroad, “Trump worked some official business into the trip by holding talks … between the U.S. and the European Union’s 27 member countries” (PBS, 2025).
And in case you missed it—Trump now wants to host the G-20 summit at his Doral, Florida property, a move that could hand him yet another personal financial windfall. (CNN, 2025).
It really makes you wonder: What would conservatives say if former President Obama or Clinton hyped up crypto coins, promoted their luxury resorts, or accepted a gift of a private jet?
So I'm Asking You:
Is this who we are?
Do we accept a government where the President promotes crypto coins for his business, takes private jets from foreign governments, and builds luxury resorts while pretending to represent Americans?
Or do we say enough?
Because here's the truth: If Trump profits off policies he enacts or his position as President while in office, that's not democracy. That's corruption. And corruption like this doesn't just erode trust—it erodes our future.
We need public servants, not profiteers.
We need leaders who serve the people—not themselves.
So I want to hear from you. Is Trump corrupt? Is he working for you—or himself?
Let's have that conversation. Let's demand better. Can you share your thoughts with me?
