Daily Stop Project 2025 News Briefing - September 18, 2024
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: September 18, 2024
People Power United declares Project 2025 is a clear and present danger to our rights, freedoms, democracy, and the rule of law.
In response to recent MAGA shenanigans to enact Project 2025, People Power United - a progressive grassroots group - issued the following statement:
“Project 2025 is a dangerous plan to move America from a democracy to a theocratic autocracy. There is no power like that of the people, and People Power United stands ready to protect our communities against any and all injustices,” said Laurie Woodward García of People Power United.
People Power United will continue to oppose such harm to our community and champion civil rights for all.

Trump’s Project 2025 Will Give Extreme MAGA Republicans Total Control
Donald Trump’s Project 2025 is a blatant power grab that aims to give extreme MAGA Republicans unchecked authority. They plan to use this power to criminalize abortion, undermine the middle class, and dismantle Social Security and Medicare.
Under Trump’s Project 2025, Republicans intend to impose a nationwide abortion ban and create a national registry to monitor women’s pregnancies and miscarriages. They even threaten to imprison doctors and nurses who provide essential care.
If enacted, Project 2025 would also gut the Affordable Care Act, leading to higher healthcare costs for everyone and a loss of protections for pre-existing conditions. Workers would lose their right to overtime pay, and middle-class families would face tax hikes—all while wealthy corporations receive new handouts.
Republicans' Project 2025 includes a detailed plan to dismantle Social Security and Medicare as we know them. This means slashing benefits for seniors and allowing Big Pharma to charge exorbitant prices for medication.

Fighting Project 2025:
ABC News Senate is voting on IVF bill that has become a presidential campaign flashpoint
Tuesday, September 17, 3:05 PM | By: Allison Pecorin
"If the Senate votes no today and strikes IVF protections down yet again, it will be further proof that Project 2025 is alive and well," Schumer said on the Senate floor earlier Tuesday. "Remember Donald Trump's Project 2025 is tied to the Heritage Foundation, one of the most important and extreme conservative think tanks in the country, and earlier this year, they came out fiercely against today's bill protecting IVF."
"So to my Republican colleagues today, you get a second chance to either stand with families struggling with infertility or stand with Project 2025, which aims to make reproductive freedoms extinct," Schumer said.
Threats to Rights and Freedoms:
The Washington Post The struggle over Obamacare might be ending. Obamacare won.
Tuesday, September 17, 12:53 PM | By: Editorial Board
The 2016 Republican platform declared that 'any honest agenda for improving healthcare must start with repeal.' The 2024 version promises to 'expand access to new Affordable Healthcare.' Even Project 2025 stops short of calling for the repeal of the ACA. Instead, the Heritage Foundation initiative offers 'policy suggestions to curb the abuses' of the law.
NPR Senate Republicans block IVF bill, as Democrats elevate issue ahead of November election
Tuesday, September 17, 4:37 PM | By: Deirdre Walsh
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer tried to link Senate Republicans to Project 2025, the detailed policy agenda published by the Heritage foundation, which includes restrictions on reproductive health care. Trump and most GOP lawmakers have disavowed the document, but before the vote on Tuesday Schumer said if GOP Senators vote no on the IVF bill "it will be further proof that Project 2025 is alive and well."

USA TODAY Letters: Retired Jacksonville teacher points out threats to child care in Project 2025
Wednesday, September 18, 5:01 AM
Child Care Aware of America recently found that the national average price for child care in 2023 was $11,582. This is a real problem and one that Project 2025 would only worsen.
Public Opinion:
The Hill Harris holds 67-point lead over Trump among LGBTQ voters: poll
Tuesday, September 17, 10:32 AM | By: Brooke Migdon
Abortion and reproductive rights ranked second, at 47 percent, and roughly a third of LGBTQ voters said judicial reform was among their top priorities. Thirty-one percent said inflation was a critical concern and 27 percent said Project 2025, the Heritage Foundation's blueprint for the next conservative administration, was a key motivator driving them to the polls.
