In response to recent Supreme Court shenanigans, People Power United - a progressive grassroots group - issued the following statement:
“The Supreme Court has become unhinged. There is no power like that of the people, and People Power United stands ready to protect our communities against any and all injustices,” said Laurie Woodward García of People Power United.
People Power United will continue to oppose such harm to our community and champion civil rights for all.

Jordan Rubin outlines Kamala Harris’s comments on the Supreme Court at the DNC last week, noting her focus on the Court’s rulings on abortion and presidential immunity.
Newsweek: Supreme Concerns About the Supreme Court
Tom Rogers and Susan Del Percio argue that while President Biden’s Supreme Court reform proposal is not likely to be enacted, it does demonstrate the importance of the Court in the November election. They outline polling on the matter as well.

David B. Rivkin Jr. and Andrew M. Grossman argue that Harris and Schumer would threaten judicial independence with some of their proposed Court reforms.
Judicial Vacancies
NBC: The federal courts are full of judges who could retire but won’t. Little can be done about it.
Lawrence Hurley and Elleiana Green report on the number of federal judges who are eligible to take senior status but will not. They offer a visual interpretation of FJC data and note that the average age of a federal judge is 69.

Vox: A Trump judge ruled there’s a Second Amendment right to own machine guns
Ian Millhiser reports on Wednesday’s ruling in United States v. Morgan, in which “a Trump judge in Kansas ruled that the Second Amendment invalidates criminal charges against a defendant charged with illegally possessing a machine gun.” He writes that this ruling is obviously wrong, even under Bruen, but that it demonstrates the chaos that will continue until the Supreme Court overturns Bruen.
