📢 Defend Democracy: Reject Fascism, Protect Freedom

Here are 100+ ways we can uphold Freedom and reject Fascism.

Friends, I had messages from folks admitting they are scared and worried about the future for themselves, their families, friends, and the community. I agree these are troubling times we are living in. Yesterday, our nation witnessed an assassination attack on former President Trump.

Here is the statement People Power United released immediately following the attack:

People Power United condemns all acts of violence and political intimidation.

While we disagree with former President Trump on many issues, we would never wish him harm.

We do not know the extent of his injuries, but we wish him a speedy recovery.

A couple of friendly reminders:

• Please only share information that has been verified or is from a reputable source.

• Please do not engage with folks in person or online who want to bait you with comments. Comments blaming Democrats, Liberals, and the media for what happened to Trump might cause us to be defensive but do not engage. The more you engage, the more eyeballs keep seeing their message. Delete, ban, or walk away from conversations that want to bait you. We need to encourage open and respectful dialogue. Ad hominem (name-calling) attacks are neither open nor respectful.

• Please do not wish our former president ill. Regardless of our political differences, seeking retribution or vengeance is not who we are.

Lastly, I would encourage all of us to stay vigilant in our quest for Freedom over Fascism, and here are some ways that we can double down our efforts to promote peace and a community where everyone can vote and thrive:

1. Educate Yourself: Learn everything you can about the issue or candidate (s) you care about.

2. Raise Awareness

   • We need to grow our outreach. The other side promoting Fascism has more followers online and, I suspect, on the ground, especially in swing states. We need more messengers!

   • If you see good content online, please LIKE ❤️, SHARE 📢, and COMMENT 🗣️.

   • Please follow us on Substack, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Substack Notes.

3. Join Events- check out our calendar here.

   • Take Action Tuesdays: We're using our lunch hour to take action on issues, text bank, do letters and postcards to voters, and more! No supplies needed. We train on the spot! Click here for more information and to signup.

4. Write Postcards and/or Letters to Voters

5. Petitions: Create or sign petitions to show public support for the issue.

   • People Power United stands with our coalition partners as champions for progress in our communities. Here are some People Powered actions we can take.

6. Write Letters: Send letters to the editor, politicians, and influential figures.

7. Fundraise and Donate

   • Find an issue or organization you care about. For example, we set up this fund on Act Blue to help promote Progressive Champions.

8. Practice Self-Care: Ensure you care for your mental and physical health to sustain your activism.

Whatever your excuse is, please chuck it. We have folks who are too young, too old, too busy or have too few resources. But together, we are a force to be reckoned with. We have heard every excuse, and yet our heroes keep showing up to advocate for our rights, freedoms, and democracy. Let's stand together and make our voices heard.

Postcards and/or Letters to Voters

We can inspire voters and make a meaningful difference, one vote at a time.

Join us to learn more about our postcard and letter-writing-to-voters program. No supplies are needed. We will go over instructions and our current campaigns. We write postcards/and or letters to targeted voters to increase turnout in close, critical elections nationwide.

Then, we will take our campaigns into our neighborhoods by writing postcards and letters to voters with our family, friends, and other community members.

Progressive Issues Activism

Whatever our color, background, or zip code, most believe everyone deserves to live their best life. In this community, we will always speak out against racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, homophobia, misogyny, sexism, ageism, ableism, sizeism, transphobia, misogynoir, elitism, and bigotry!

We can not wait until the next election cycle; we must act now to protect our democracy. Join us to learn how to defend our vote and voice in our democracy. Join us for our next meeting to discuss the issues, what's at stake, and how to propel action so everyone can vote and thrive.
