Happy Friday! I hope you’ve got some amazing plans to relax and recharge this weekend. When you have a moment later today, I encourage you to check out this op-ed in Politico about what’s unfolding in Turkey. It’s a powerful reminder of why each of us, in our own way, must speak out, show up, and help build the collective power needed to defend freedom and push back against fascism.

Standing Up from Home: Everyday Acts Against Fascism and for Freedom

In an era where authoritarianism and fascist ideologies are on the rise around the world, it’s easy to feel powerless as an individual. Many believe fighting back requires holding public office, leading mass movements, or having a large social media following. But the truth is, everyday people—right from their own homes—can play a powerful role in standing up to fascism and defending freedom. It starts with awareness, action, and a commitment to community.

1. Stay Informed and Educate Others
Fascism thrives in ignorance and disinformation. One of the simplest but most important things people can do from home is stay informed. Subscribing to reliable news sources, fact-checking claims before sharing, and avoiding conspiracy theories are essential daily practices. Beyond that, sharing accurate information with friends and family helps build a more informed community. Hosting small groups or book clubs around topics like democracy, human rights, and history can also empower others with knowledge that counters fascist narratives.

2. Use Your Voice—Online and Offline
Social media offers a powerful platform to speak out against injustice and raise awareness. From tweeting support for marginalized communities to calling out racist, sexist, or authoritarian rhetoric, your voice matters. You can also amplify the voices of those on the front lines—activists, journalists, and grassroots organizations. Offline, writing letters to the editor, calling elected officials, or simply having courageous conversations with friends or neighbors can shift public opinion and encourage civic engagement.

3. Support Pro-Democracy Organizations
Even from your couch, you can take part in supporting organizations that defend democracy and human rights. Donating even a small amount, signing petitions, attending virtual events, or volunteering remotely helps fuel the movement. These organizations often rely on a wide base of everyday supporters to pressure lawmakers, fight voter suppression, and educate the public. Your time, attention, and resources can make a real difference.

4. Vote—and Help Others Vote
Voting is a fundamental act of resistance against fascism. Make sure you’re registered, vote in every election (not just presidential ones), and help others do the same. From home, you can text or call voters, write postcards or letters, or join virtual get-out-the-vote efforts through groups like Vote Forward or People Power United. These actions help ensure that democracy reflects the will of the people. Click here to bookmark and share our People Power United voting resource.

5. Live Your Values Boldly
Fascism depends on fear, silence, and conformity. Living your values—whether that means flying a rainbow flag, supporting minority-owned businesses, reading banned books, or celebrating diversity—challenges that system. When we model compassion, inclusivity, and courage in our everyday lives, we inspire others to do the same.

The fight against fascism and for freedom isn’t limited to the streets or the halls of power. It happens in homes, living rooms, online platforms, and quiet acts of resistance. Every voice counts. Every action matters. And when millions of everyday people decide to speak up, stand tall, and support one another, freedom has a fighting chance.

Our Plan to Fight Fascism

Here at People Power United, our strategy is clear: Organize, mobilize, and take action to ensure that those in power represent the people, not special interests or authoritarian ambitions. We will speak out against injustice, show up in every way possible—from the streets to the ballot box—and build a movement strong enough to replace any leader who fails to serve the people’s interests. This is not just about one election or one moment; it’s about securing a future where freedom triumphs over fascism. Now is our time to rise.

The 3.5% Rule: Small Actions Create Big Change

Research shows that movements need about 3.5% of the population actively engaged to create real, lasting change. That’s why we’re advocating to mobilize 10 million plus people in the next few weeks and months.

If each of us commits just 20 minutes a day, here’s the impact we can make:

  • Reach out to 10 people a day

    • 2.2 million people reached in one day

    • 66 million reached in 30 days

  • Take five meaningful actions daily

    • 1.1 million actions in one day

    • 33 million actions in 30 days

Movements win through consistency, persistence, and collective action.
