I am here because of Bernie. I'm a fangirl. Truth be told, I found my way into activism because of Bernie. I would not have left Suburbia if Bernie had not inspired me to find my voice and speak out for Medicare for all. I remember someone posting on Facebook that delegates were needed for Bernie's campaign, and I was intrigued. At that point, I was apathetic toward politics, but I saw the warning signs of the hate that Trump was promoting. I ran, and met people, and discussed issues, and felt engaged in my community. I later went on to volunteer for the final nominee-Hillary. I didn't win the delegate election, but always retained my passion for making progressive change in my community and following Bernie's lead. I, too, was surprised when Bernie immediately announced his support for Biden in 2024. And then MoveOn also announced support for Biden. What about the war in GAZA, healthcare disparities, better conditions for working folks, immigration reform, environmental stewardship, and more? How could Bernie or MoveOn be for Biden again when there is so much more progress to be had?Â
Because we don't have another candidate.Â
Bernie knows we are progressing inch by inch, and the best chance of movement we have at this point is with Biden.Â
We still need to build more progressive power, but we must do so while pushing for Biden’s reelection.Â
A lot of people were upset yesterday by my post about Marianne Williamson and Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and why I feel they should bow out of the race.Â
Let’s look at the bigger picture. If the Democratic vote is fractured by these fringe candidates, that only increases the chances of Donald Trump, Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, or some other extreme-right Republican winning the election. The results of such a win could be disastrous. We could see rising costs and inflation. We could see the decimation of programs like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. We could see a rise in anti-abortion legislation, homophobic legislation, and other discriminatory and dangerous laws. Book bans will only grow, and the environment will be left unprotected from groups like Big Oil. Countries around the world will feel the pull of authoritarian leaders, emboldened by the US’s example.
I am not trying to scare you, but I am sharing what I believe will happen if Republicans win the White House. I can't speak for Bernie, but I believe he, too, was looking at the bigger picture.Â
Let's also be clear that not voting is a vote for the Republican nominee. Period. By not voting, you are doing exactly what Donald Trump, Nikki Haley, and Ron Desantis want you to do. A no-vote is more dangerous, because it is a refusal of responsibility. People Power is not about our individual needs; it is about all of us living lives where everyone can thrive, and that requires all of us committing to carry out our civic duty.
I'm with Bernie and MoveOn on this. I will double down to do the work to build progressive power and push our leaders to do better, and I will support Biden in this election. Why? Because Americans and Progressives don't quit. People who want world peace and better for our community (with healthcare, education, housing, civil rights, gun safety reforms, environmental justice, and more), we don't quit.Â
We roll up our sleeves and do the work to make change happen.Â
I hope you will join us.

I believe in the power of the people. People Power United members believe in the possibility of change and work to make it happen. I have seen the love and determination of folks stepping up to write letters and postcards to voters, signing petitions and letter campaigns, making calls, sending texts, hitting doors, and dropping literature. There is no power like that of the people, and People Power United stands ready to protect our communities against any and all injustices. - Laurie Woodward Garcia, People Power United
