Great news! Florida is kicking off a ballot measure initiative to undo the oppressive 6 week abortion ban.
Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, and a coalition of other organizations are launching an effort to place a constitutional amendment on Florida's ballot next year that would both undo the six-week abortion ban that Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law last month and allow the procedure to take place up to 24 weeks into a pregnancy.
Here are some ways for you to help this initiative:
Regardless if you are registered voter in Florida or not, you can share the petition with Florida folks. Be sure to remind them that they must be a registered voter in Florida to submit the petition.

Q and A
Why 24 weeks? Before a 15-week ban was imposed last year, abortion was offered in Florida up to viability. Some providers offered care up to 24 weeks.
What if people want to debate the issue? You should respectfully decline if you are canvassing.
Be aware of your surroundings, bad actors, etc. that might try and get you on recording or camera to turn your canvassing efforts into a media moment. Remember you are sharing a voters initiative petition for freedom to protect a patients right to have an abortion. It’s ok, if some folks choose not to sign it. It is not ok, if someone becomes verbally abusive. Walk away and report to authorities if needed.
Terms that are misleading and should be avoided:
“Fetal heartbeat” according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists “Until the chambers of the heart have been developed and can be detected via ultrasound (roughly 17-20 weeks of gestation), it is not accurate to characterize the embryo’s or fetus’s cardiac development as a heartbeat.”
How many forms do we need to get it on the ballot? 900,000 by the end of 2023 collected from various areas across the state
Will this be challenged? Of course! It’s Florida, but let’s be clear, our freedoms are worth fighting for!
Do we believe this has a chance to pass in Florida? Yes! Florida’s abortion ban goes against the will of a supermajority of Floridians across the political spectrum. Polling shows that 64% of Floridians say abortion should be legal in most or all cases.
Everyone deserves to vote and thrive,
