Biden Publish the ERA

For a century, the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) has been a symbol of justice and equality, declaring, “Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex.”

Ratified by three-fourths of the states in 2020, the ERA has met all constitutional requirements to become the 28th Amendment. According to the American Bar Association and numerous other experts, the Equal Rights Amendment is valid and should be fully implemented.​

President Trump ignored it, and President Joe Biden now has the opportunity to address this injustice and reaffirm his commitment to equality and the rule of law by directing National Archivist Colleen Shogun to publish the ERA.

This critical step would reaffirm the nation’s commitment to equality and the rule of law, while setting a precedent for progress that honors our shared democratic values.

Protect Democracy and Prevent Abuse of Recess Appointments

A recess appointment allows a president to install unvetted individuals (people who may not be able to get a security clearance, who are foreign operatives, or have issues that compromise their nomination) into powerful positions without Senate confirmation, enabling them to serve for nearly two years without scrutiny.

Donald Trump has already signaled his intent to exploit this loophole, pressuring Republican senators to support his use of recess appointments to bypass the critical checks and balances designed to protect our democracy.

Congress must act immediately to pass legislation requiring all appointees to undergo rigorous background checks by the FBI and ethical vetting by the Office of Government Ethics which are the norm. These safeguards are essential to closing this dangerous loophole.

Can you take 1 (one) minute and send a message to your federal and state lawmakers to let them know that the American people will not stand by while the principles of accountability and transparency are undermined?
