March on Washington
The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge. - MLK Jr.
Sixty years ago this week, almost 250,000 Americans showed up in DC to demand an end to systemic racism and to advocate for the civil and economic rights of African Americans.
March on Washington
The August 28, 1963 march on Washington was prompted by the oppressive atmosphere of Southern states, which was characterized by Jim Crow laws and violence. The hostile environment of the American South was designed to disenfranchise minority groups, and especially people of color. The march on Washington was a call for America to do better and grant all citizens equal opportunities.
Here we are sixty years later, and America is still burdened with racism and bigotry.
One of the goals of the Civil Rights Movement was the passage of meaningful civil and voting rights legislation. As champions for progress, we too must advocate for the legislation and enforcement of laws that strengthen our voting and civil rights. Here are 3 (three) quick-and-easy actions we can take:
Click here to tell your member of Congress to protect your freedom to vote and your voice in democracy:
Click here to send a message to your member of Congress and state representatives to declare racism a public health crisis:
Click here to tell your member of Congress to co-sponsor and support the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Act:
Thanks for taking action! You are awesomeness!

I believe in the power of the people. I have seen the love and determination of folks stepping up to write letters and postcards to voters, signing petitions and letter campaigns, making calls, sending texts, hitting doors, and dropping literature. There is no power like that of the people, and People Power United stands ready to protect our communities against any and all injustices. - Laurie Woodward Garcia, People Power United
