Selling Out the People: Trump's Budget, Corruption, and the War on Working Families
Donald Trump once claimed he was fighting for the forgotten American worker. But his latest budget—and the corrupt web of deals surrounding it, tells a very different story. This is not a plan to lift families. It's a blueprint to strip away essential services, hike up prices, and funnel tax breaks to the rich, all while Trump uses the presidency to enrich himself abroad personally.
At a time when families are struggling with the cost of food, healthcare, and rent, Trump and House Republicans are championing a plan that would:
Kick millions off their health care
Slash school lunches and food assistance
Impose massive tariffs that raise prices on groceries, clothes, and electronics
And reward billionaires with obscene tax breaks
All while Trump's own family is brokering real estate deals and accepting extravagant gifts from authoritarian regimes in the Middle East. The message is clear: Trump will make you richer if you're rich. You'll be forced to pay the price if you're working class.
A Health Care Crisis by Design
Trump's Republican allies in the House are pushing forward a budget that amounts to nothing less than a targeted assault on health care access. Their reconciliation bill would strip millions of Americans' health coverage to bankroll tax breaks for billionaires.
This isn't hyperbole. According to an independent Congressional Budget Office (CBO) analysis, the Republican plan will raise health care costs for working families while slashing coverage and increasing out-of-pocket expenses. At the same time, the top 5% of earners would see a windfall of tax cut, funded by the suffering of the bottom 40%.
Here's what this could look like:
A single mom in Iowa skips doctor visits so she can afford her child's asthma medication.
A retired truck driver in Arkansas, already battling cancer, receives a notice that his Medicaid coverage is being cut.
A child in rural Kentucky loses access to preventive screenings because their local clinic shuts down after federal funding is gutted.
This is a deliberate choice to put the wealthy before the well-being of the people.
Medicaid, which currently serves 1 in 5 Americans, is the target of brutal cuts. Experts warn that gutting it could lead to tens of thousands of preventable deaths. And yet, 81% of Americans oppose cuts to Medicaid (KFF, 2023). Even Trump's voters, nearly half, oppose the plan (Navigator Research, 2025).
So why do it?
To Trump and his Republican allies, tax cuts for the ultra-rich are always worth the cost, especially when someone else pays the bill.
As champions for progress, we are asking all of our People Power United members to do two things today:
Use the script below and Call (202) 224-3121, and ask to be connected to your Representative's Office:
Hi, my name is [NAME], and I'm a constituent of Representative [NAME].
I'm calling to urge them to vote NO on the upcoming reconciliation bill. Cutting Medicaid and SNAP to fund tax breaks for billionaires is cruel and unacceptable. This bill would strip health coverage from 13.7 million Americans, raise costs for millions more, and take food away from children, seniors, and veterans, all while shifting resources from the bottom 40% of Americans to give 70% of the benefits to the top 5%, and increasing funding for ICE and the military.
Please stand with our communities. Vote NO on the reconciliation bill.

Thanks for taking action!
Enough is enough. America doesn't do kings.
Donald Trump lost the popular vote twice, yet continues to rule as if crowned, defying court orders, targeting immigrants, slashing essential services, and demanding loyalty over law. Now he wants a $100 million military parade on his birthday, using taxpayer money to stage a show of intimidation, not celebration. While tanks roll down Pennsylvania Avenue, Trump and Republicans are gutting Social Security, SNAP, Medicare, Medicaid, and Veterans Services—claiming there's no money for struggling families while handing tax breaks to billionaires. This isn't patriotism. It's authoritarian corruption in broad daylight.
But this moment isn't just about Trump—it's about all of us. If you're fed up with rising costs, civil liberties under assault, and daily attacks on our democracy, this is your moment to rise. Join us for No King's Day, a National Day of Action. Across the country, people will gather in streets, parks, rallies, and protests—showing up and speaking out. We'll declare in hundreds of cities and towns with one voice: Power belongs to the people. We rise not in fear but in solidarity, not for one man, but for all of us.

Shoutout to our changemakers!
I want to take a moment to thank everyone who’s been showing up, speaking out, and taking action to champion progress and power to the people. Your energy fuels this movement!
I also want to let you know about an upcoming change in our programming. We’ll soon be cleaning up our list to focus on those actively engaged in our work. People Power United is a grassroots group rooted in action—and we’re reserving our communications for those who believe in the power of change and take steps to help make it happen.
If you’ve been commenting, sharing posts, signing petitions, sending letters, or attending events—you’re exactly who we want to stay connected with. If someone hasn’t participated in any way, they will be removed from our list.
There are two reasons for this:
Our mission is to make change happen, and that takes action—not just observation.
We’re being penalized by Substack, Google, and other email providers when recipients aren’t engaging. It affects our ability to reach those who do want to be involved. As a grassroots group that does zero fundraising, we need to be able to reach our members.
Thanks so much for your continued support and understanding. Let’s keep building people power—together.
We are not just resisting—we are reclaiming, rebuilding, and rising. Let’s do it together.
With fierce resolve and people power,

I think I need a reminder. In N. CA my reps are already speaking out, one pretty consistently and loudly. I do write and call regularly, but having them already supporting democracy, who should I be contacting? I am contacting Noem daily through writing letters which are more pointed (demanding proof of life) of those disappeared without due process. I write, call, comment on representatives serving on committees, and yesterday wrote Johnson directly, and spoke to a staffer (in all honesty, I purposely sounded like a angry, old, white woman). No holds barred on my message. I attend as many actions as I can, and participate on calls to action, but my ? Remains: If my reps are fighting for the will of The PEOPLE, to whom should I address my anger?
I call and I write and I hold signs and I've marched. I live in Missouri so sometimes it feels like shouting into the wind. Josh Hawley DID say the GOP slashing health care for the working poor “is both morally wrong and politically suicidal.” Guess we will see how he votes.
