✅ Organize to Build Power Through Direct Relationships
🗽People Power United is a grassroots group of over 200,000+ members in all 50 states-powered by people like YOU. We champion progress and power to the people.
America, our communities are under direct attack. Billionaires like Elon Musk are gaining control over critical federal systems. Convicted 34-time felon President Donald Trump is surrounding himself with extremists determined to dismantle everything America stands for—turning our government into a theocratic autocracy designed to strip away our rights and freedoms. And while this happens, MAGA Republicans in Congress are not just standing by—they're helping. Republicans don't want to represent us; they want to rule over us.
We are not powerless. In fact, we hold the power they fear most—the power of collective action. We are rising up and pushing back.
No one can impose their racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, homophobia, misogyny, sexism, ageism, ableism, sizeism, transphobia, misogynoir, elitism, and bigotry on us.
America works best when it works for all of us—no matter who we are or where we come from. But MAGA Republicans & their billionaire backers want to turn back the clock to a time when wealthy white men held all the power and hoarded all the opportunities. They spread lies to cover up the progress we've made, hoping to divide us and tighten their grip on power. We're not falling for it. We demand a government that reflects all of us, represents every one of us, and serves no one's interests but the people's. No exceptions.
We will not be silenced. We will not be sidelined.
This is our moment to stand up, push back, and fight for the country we believe in.
We will show up, speak out, and organize to build the power to replace them.
Organize to Build Power Through Direct Relationships
Power is building relationships and the ability to move people to action or inaction.
Our mission in fighting for progress and people power is to inspire and unite everyone who calls America home. We’re working to create an America where everyone has the chance to thrive, and our leaders should reflect that vision. If they don’t, we’ll organize, mobilize, and do the work to replace them.
In civic engagement, true power comes from organized communities capable of influencing decisions, policies, and societal norms. While social media has transformed how we communicate, merely liking or sharing posts does not build lasting power. Power grows through direct relationships rooted in personal connections and meaningful actions that lead to sustained engagement.
The Foundation of Power: Direct Relationships
Direct relationships are the cornerstone of effective organizing. They are built through conversations, trust, and shared purpose. Unlike fleeting online interactions, direct relationships create a web of accountability and commitment. When you have someone's phone number or email, you have a direct line to their attention, allowing for continued dialogue, mobilization, and collective action.
Why Social Media Alone Is Not Enough
Social media is an excellent tool for raising awareness, but awareness alone doesn't equate to power. A reshare doesn't guarantee commitment, and a like doesn't equal participation. To build real power, you must convert passive support into active engagement. This means moving beyond digital applause to actions that inspire people to invest their time, talent, or resources.
Strategies to Build Power Through Direct Contact
Leverage Entry Points: Use petitions, event sign-ups, and letters to officials as gateways. When someone signs a petition or RSVPs for an event, they signal interest. Collect their contact information to follow up, deepen the relationship, and involve them in future actions.
Personal Conversations: One-on-one conversations are the most powerful organizing tool. They allow you to understand individual motivations, address concerns, and inspire action. These interactions can happen in person, over the phone, or via video calls—as long as they are personal and direct. Stay connected with phone calls, texts, or meet ups.
Relational Organizing: Encourage your supporters to engage their own networks. People are more likely to respond to friends, family, or colleagues. Equip your base with tools and scripts to reach out to their circles, expanding your reach organically through trusted connections. Friendly reminder to share People Power United with folks to get engaged.
Action-Oriented Engagement: Every action should have a follow-up. After someone signs a petition, invite them to an event. After an event, ask them to volunteer. Continuous engagement turns one-time participants into dedicated advocates.
Empowering Others to Take Action: Empowering individuals to take action amplifies your efforts and fosters leadership within your community. Provide resources, training, and support to help others organize, mobilize, and advocate effectively. You are always welcome to share People Power United’s resources. When people feel confident and capable, they are more likely to initiate meaningful change.
Data for Connection, Not Collection: Collecting contact information isn't just about building a list—it's about building relationships. Use your contact to personalize outreach and maintain meaningful contact. Please no spamming. Let’s build a community built on trust and relationships.
The Power of Organized Communities
An organized community with strong, direct relationships can mobilize quickly, sustain movements, and influence change. It can help us stave off fascism with people power. Building power requires more than digital visibility. It demands direct connections that transform passive interest into active participation. It's not about how many people saw your post but how many people you can call upon to take action when it matters. Focus on actions that create opportunities to gather information—events, letters, postcards, petitions, and more to empower your connections —and nurture those connections through continuous, meaningful engagement. Create your own actions or feel free to share our People Power United calls to actions or events. Empower others to take action and lead, creating a ripple effect of advocacy and change. That's how we build the power needed to create lasting change.
