The Supreme Court's decision to give states the power to prohibit abortion has denied tens of millions of people the right to determine their own destinies and make choices about their own healthcare. We must take a stand and proclaim that our right to self-determination is inherent. By allowing states to outlaw abortion, the Supreme Court has stripped many individuals of their right to choose their own healthcare, and has caused medical practitioners to ignore established protocols due to the threat of criminalization.
As a result of last summer's Supreme Court ruling, one in three women of reproductive age, plus trans and nonbinary people, are blocked from abortion care in their home state.
Not surprisingly, states with abortion bans report some of the country's poorest economic indicators:Â higher maternal mortality rates, worse health care outcomes, and economic losses that could amount to an estimated $101 billion annually.Â
