People Power United heads to the Supreme Court today!
🗽Over 400,000 people signed on to demands that the Senate investigate Clarence Thomas’ and Samuel Alito’s misconduct and vote on a code of ethics as soon as possible.

People Power United joins other local, state, and national groups to urge Congressional leaders to pass the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency (SCERT) Act and begin ethics investigations of the Supreme Court. Over 400,000 people signed on to demands that the Senate investigate Clarence Thomas’ and Samuel Alito’s misconduct and vote on a code of ethics as soon as possible. The American people deserve a Supreme Court that is free from corruption. We’re proud to join organizations representing millions of Americans to call on Congress to reform this Supreme Court. Laurie is at the Supreme Court this morning with allies demanding accountability for the Supreme Court.

After holding a press conference on the steps of the Supreme Court, representatives from Stand Up America, Center for Popular Democracy, League of Conservation Voters, People Power United and End Citizens United delivered over 400,000 signatures to the offices of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Judiciary Chair Dick Durbin urging Senate leaders to act swiftly to address corruption on the Court.
People Power United is a grassroots progressive group whose members believe in the possibility of change and do the work to make it happen. 18,325 members signed on to letters/petitions and sent over 52,352 letters to their members of Congress with a simple message:

The American public should have access to a Supreme Court that is untainted by corruption, and in light of the disconcerting corruption cases, the Justices should be held to account.
Senator Dick Durbin, in his role as chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, should take action to investigate the possibly unlawful actions of Justices Thomas and Alito, and subpoena Harlan Crow and other related individuals to give a thorough report of the supposed wrongdoing.
Additionally, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer should call for a full Senate vote on the Supreme Court Ethics, Recusal, and Transparency Act also known as SCERT, which would obligate the Supreme Court to follow and abide by a code of ethics.

Dear Member of Congress,
It is absolutely shameful that the highest court in America has become a partisan pawn, lacks transparency and accountability, and has no standard of ethics. We can and must restore the Supreme Court to an institution of respect and regard.
I would encourage you to become a co-sponsor of the Judiciary Act and the Term Act. The Judiciary Act will ensure that voting and civil rights are protected by increasing the size of the Supreme Court by 4 seats and the Term Act would limit the Supreme Court Justices to 18-year terms in active service, and it would regulate presidential appointments that new justices are appointed in the first and third years after each presidential election-which prevents court packing. I also encourage you to support legislation that promotes a code of ethics on the Supreme Court.
