Dear Colleague:
We invite you to become an original cosponsor of the Medicare for All Act. This bill would provide universal health coverage to all residents of the United States with no premiums, deductibles, co-pays, or surprise bills.
Guaranteed and continuous healthcare coverage is more important than ever. It is unacceptable that 20 million people are uninsured and more than 40 million people are under-insured across the United States. Even as our country spends twice as much on health care compared to other major industrialized nations, Americans are forgoing care and struggling with medical debt, medical bankruptcies, and high out-of-pocket costs.
Medicare for All would expand and improve Medicare to provide comprehensive health coverage to everyone in the United States by the end of a two-year transition period. Benefits would include all medically necessary services such as primary care, vision, dental, hearing, prescription drugs, mental health, long-term care, reproductive health and more. Patients would have complete freedom to choose providers they wish to see because there would be no restrictive provider networks.
The Congressional Budget Office estimates Medicare for All would save $650 billion annually. It would also make it easier for patients to receive the care they need without having to overcome obstacles created by insurers. Researchers at Yale University have estimated that Medicare for All would save 68,000 lives a year.
To become an original cosponsor, please complete this form by April 28.
Please contact Serena Baserman (Serena.Baserman@mail.house.gov) with Rep. Jayapal or William Seabrook (William.Seabrook@mail.house.gov) with Rep. Dingell with any questions.
Sincerely,
PRAMILA JAYAPAL Member of Congress
DEBBIE DINGELL Member of Congress
