People Power United’s statement on President Biden affirming the Equal Rights Amendment as ratified
🗽A well informed citizenry is the best defense against tyranny.
"The Equal Rights Amendment is the law of the land — now!… It's the 28th Amendment to the Constitution — now." - Joe Biden in a speech to the U.S. Conference of Mayors on January 17, 2025.
In response to President Biden affirming the Equal Rights Amendment as ratified, People Power United—a grassroots organization with over 200,000 members across all 50 states and some U.S. territories, dedicated to championing progress and empowering the people—has issued the following statement:
January 20, 2025
I want to acknowledge our members who spent countless hours calling, writing, and doing everything they could to champion the Equal Rights Amendment's ratification- you all wrote close to 100,000 letters. I am grateful that President Biden made the statement above but also puzzled why an issue like championing equal rights for all who call America home was left to the last week of his administration. I am also puzzled why former President Trump ignored this issue during his first term. My hope is moving forward that the courts will affirm equal rights for all and if they don't, then People Power United will lead the charge to nudge all leaders regardless of their party, to take up this issue immediately and build a future rooted in liberty and justice for all (not just the wealthy, powerful, and privileged). - Laurie Woodward Garcia, leader of People Power United
