📢 Remembering October 7th: Let’s Choose Peace Now
Today, let us put aside our biases, hatred, and bigotry and remember that the common thread of humanity binds us all.
On this solemn first anniversary of the October 7th attack on Israel by Hamas, we must pause to recognize the deep pain and suffering that has gripped the lives of so many. The loss of innocent lives is always unacceptable—whether they are Israelis or Palestinians.
Today, I ask you to join me in a call for peace—a plea for compassion, understanding, and unity in a time of increasing division.
This fight is deeply personal for me. Since 2016, I have dedicated myself to standing up for a brighter future where justice, equality, and humanity prevail for all. I am committed to my Jewish and Muslim brothers and sisters, and I refuse to abandon this cause. As we gather to reflect on this devastating event, I hope you will join me in advocating for peace and justice, standing firmly against the oppression of any people, and working tirelessly to stop the cycle of violence that traps so many innocent lives.
We must speak out—not just as individuals but as a collective voice against all forms of violence. Today, I call upon every person who believes in peace to join me in this stance. Let us also heed the wisdom of Miroslav Volf, a Croatian theologian, who once said, “There is something deeply hypocritical about praying for a problem you are unwilling to resolve.” Together, we can push for progress and demand that peace be given a chance.
We must urge our Members of Congress to endorse calls for humanitarian pauses in the ongoing conflict, enabling the restoration of essential public services and aid to all those in need. We also call on the Biden/Harris Administration to take decisive steps to ensure Israeli security, counter Hamas expansion, protect civilians, uphold international law, and actively prevent further escalation. These actions are vital in addressing this crisis and paving the way to peace.
Today, let us put aside our biases, hatred, and bigotry and remember that the common thread of humanity binds us all. I do not claim to have all the answers, nor do I pretend to be an expert on Israel or Palestine. I believe that we can and must advocate for a better tomorrow, even when the path ahead is uncertain. Now is the time to raise our voices for peace, for the lives lost, and for the future, we all hope to build—one that transcends the painful cycles of violence and offers a glimpse of hope for both Israelis and Palestinians alike.
Today’s Calls-to-Action
Here are some People Power United actions we can take for peace:
Send a message to your representative to co-sponsor the Cease Fire resolution
Pray for peace. Pray for the return of the hostages. Pray for the people of Israel and the people of Palestine. Pray for a free and just Israel and Palestine.
Call your Senators and your Representatives (202) 224-3121 and the White House (202) 456-1111 and ask them to “champion policies that maintain Israeli security, counter Hamas, protect Israeli and Palestinian civilians, uphold international laws, and prevent the escalation of tensions in the region”
Sign the petition to support immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Israel and occupied Palestine
Thanks for Taking Action!
