📢 Silence Won’t Save Us—Action Will
We are living in troubling times that require good people to speak out, show up, and take action.
People Power United is a reader-supported publication. To receive new posts and support our work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber.
Every day, I ask all of us to speak out, show up, and build people power. Yet far too many remain silent.
When I say speak out, I don’t just mean public speeches or rallies—I mean having honest, brave conversations with your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors. Online and offline. Conversations about the challenges we face, the solutions within reach, and how we—not someone else—can champion progress and power to the people.
Speaking out means calling and emailing our lawmakers. It means holding them accountable to us, their constituents—not corporations or extremist donors.
Showing up means taking action. It means signing petitions, sending letters to lawmakers, raising your voice on social media, attending meetings, writing postcards and letters to voters, door knocking, writing an op-ed or letter to the editor, and joining a phone or text bank. It means stepping into the fight, no matter how small the step feels. Every action counts.
And building people power? That’s about expanding our circles, forging new connections, and growing the movement every single day. We need more people taking action—we provide so many tools and actions in our daily newsletter!—and even more people spreading the word and lighting the spark in others.
But here’s the hard truth: too many people are staying quiet. Too many are watching from the sidelines, paralyzed by fear or uncertainty, believing their voice or action won’t matter.
📢 Silence Won’t Save Us—Action Will
I’ve been arrested over a dozen times in recent years for civil disobedience—for reproductive justice, for immigration reform, for democracy, and beyond. Every time, it was terrifying. But every time, I knew it mattered.
These were civil actions of conscience. I have no criminal record because they were just civil disobedience, and I paid my civil fines. But this isn’t about records. It’s about resolve.
Civil disobedience is just one way to take a stand. And it works best when it’s part of a more significant, growing wave of activism: writing letters, signing petitions, knocking on doors, reaching out to voters, sharing resources, registering new voters, electing leaders, and holding them accountable.
When we combine these actions, we amplify our power. We sustain momentum. We keep hope alive.
I share this not for sympathy, but because I know how fear feels. I know what it’s like to step away from comfort and into uncertainty. When I left suburbia to fight for justice, I had no idea what would happen. But I did know this: failure was not an option.
We are living in perilous times, and they require courage from every one of us. I’m not saying you need to get arrested like me. I am saying that you need to act. You need to raise your voice, because silence will not save us.
And let’s be real—what we risk by speaking out is nothing compared to what many in our communities face daily.
It will never be as terrifying as the people being targeted and criminalized because of the color of their skin, the language they speak, or the faith they practice.
It will never be as terrifying as families losing loved ones because they can’t afford healthcare or safe housing.
It will never be as terrifying as innocent lives lost to weapons of war.
It will never be as terrifying as those targeted for their identity, their pronouns, or who they love.
It will never be as terrifying as living in fear of being seen for who you are or where you come from.
It will never be as terrifying as struggling every day to make ends meet while billionaires and special interests rig the system for themselves.
As long as I have breath in my body, I will fight against these injustices. I will raise my fists in defiance of hatred and despair. Hopefully, I will not face more arrests—but if I do, so be it. My resolve will never break.
So I ask you, with everything I have: Will you stand with me?
Will you join me and others at People Power United to push back against fascism, racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, antisemitism, homophobia, misogyny, sexism, ageism, ableism, sizeism, transphobia, misogynoir, elitism, and bigotry in all its forms?
Will you join me in speaking out, showing up, and building people power?
Because every single act you take—attending a meeting, having a conversation, signing a petition, volunteering—creates ripples. Those ripples grow into waves. And waves can move mountains.
We’ve seen it before. MAGA’s rise is proof that organizing works, even when it’s for all the wrong reasons. Now, it’s our turn to harness people power for good. To build movements grounded in justice, equity, authenticity, and unstoppable determination.
When we invest in grassroots power, we don’t just change today—we build a future where freedom, justice, and democracy thrive.
Let’s commit. Let’s show up. Let’s prove, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that our actions matter—because they do.
Together, we can Resist and Champion Freedom Over Fascism
Every day, let’s take 5+ quick, powerful actions — and reach out to 10 people, in person or online, to grow our movement and multiply our impact. Together, our daily actions build unstoppable momentum!
