Kim's Journey: From Voter to Passionate Activist
We are thrilled to introduce Kim, one of our dedicated volunteers whose journey into political activism is both relatable and inspiring.
While Kim wasn’t always politically active, her passion ignited during Hillary Clinton's campaign against Donald Trump. She saw both the promise of Hillary’s leadership and the threat Trump posed to our democracy. Witnessing the turmoil of the 2016 election and the alarming consequences that followed, Kim felt compelled to do more than ever before. From texting campaigns to post carding, to social media efforts, Kim’s commitment is a testament to the power of individuals stepping up to protect our democracy and ensure a brighter future for all.
Kim is the embodiment of People Power!
I was never all that active politically other than a bus trip in high school to support a candidate in my state, but that was just because some other friends were doing it.
I have always voted in every election since the time I could vote, but it wasn’t until Hillary ran for office against Trump that I found myself more politically engaged. She had an event in Coral Springs that I attended in its overflow facility. I also did some door knocking, but was not very comfortable doing that because of the hateful MAGA influence on some voters.
When I reflect on why I decided to become a little more active at that time, it was because I had the highest level of respect for Hillary and her intelligence as well as what I felt she could do to help our country advance our democracy. But it was also because I saw what a threat Trump would be if he were to be elected. I attended a friend’s Election night party here in Parkland. We were so excited at the notion that Hillary would be our next President. We can all surely appreciate now how deflated we were when the electoral numbers started moving in Trump’s direction. In fact, it was like a nightmare we all felt like we couldn’t wake up from.
Now that we’ve seen what he has done to this country, and the damage he continues to do, it is with even more fervor that I have become more active than I have ever been in my lifetime. As a senior citizen I have witnessed a lot. I remember the Cuban Missile crisis that President Kennedy managed so delicately that saved us from nuclear devastation. I was in junior high school when civil rights laws were enacted and women were given more rights that, at the time I didn’t even realize we didn’t have. Then there was Reagan telling Gorbachev to tear down that Berlin wall. I was just out of college when Watergate happened. I was in my first year of teaching when Roe became the law of the land. I had friends who suffered through the Vietnam war.
Years went by that seemed pretty damn good (except for the latter Bush years when the banks all failed) and I was in tears when I saw Obama get elected, our first black President. I was so happy.
But here we are today…the doom and gloom, the negativity, the hatred and racism, the outlandish conspiracies, the efforts to tear apart our Constitution, our American way of life, to merge Church and State in our government, and the threat of losing even more freedoms…all of this darkness brought about by one malignant narcissistic , a demonic demagogue, a psychopathic liar…a cult leader who is bent on overthrowing our government in a second attempt to regain power so he can throw out the court cases that will most certainly land him in prison.
I know what autocrats and dictators are capable of. I know the history of Hitler and the Nazis that Trump wants to perpetuate. I know when Communism was a threat and when Putin was a KBG agent. TRUMP feigns over the likes of Putin, Viktor Orban and Kim Jong Un….all dictators that Trump aspires to emulate…This is why I have become more politically active than I’ve ever been before.
What I have done is get more engaged in multiple texting campaigns from supporting Debbie Mucarsel-Powell for Senate, to getting volunteers across the country in support of the Harris-Walz campaign, post card writing, letters to voters in Ohio, and a massive effort to get messaging across on social media. I’m not one for phone banking or door knocking, but I have devoted countless hours with all these other activities. I cannot fathom any other outcome than Kamala becoming our next president, and I am extremely hopeful that we rid Florida of all MAGA Republicans.
The HARRIS administration will be uplifting. She and Walz have the aptitude and commitment to help all Americans and to solve the problems our country faces. They will ensure our fragile and precious democracy lives on. I know it will require all of us to do our part in getting everyone to vote blue up and down the ballot in order to restore the freedoms we have lost so far while expanding the freedoms we all long for and will most definitely cherish.
To paraphrase Michelle Obama, I’m simply trying to DO SOMETHING.
We can inspire voters and make a meaningful difference, one vote at a time.

Kim, wonderful article. But what needs to happen is to get white women to come on board. LADIES, NOW IS YOUR TIME. White men have ruled from the beginning of this nation. VP kamala Harris has been prepared for the job by President Joe Biden. Her opponent has mental health issues that corporate media won't talk about. He and his family are grifters. Trying to rip the nation off again. White women are the largest voting block in the nation. They voted for Chump in 2016 against another woman. How so? You guys don't want a woman to be president? Some of those white men presidents didn't do a good job of running the nation. LADIES, NOW IS YOUR TIME. Know your history.
The white men who wrote the constitution did not allow women to vote. And now the white men of what used to be the republican party are trying to take away your rights now. And you are going to still vote for them to keep their foot on your neck. Spread the word. NOW IS YOUR TIME.
