In response to the recent ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit that former President Donald Trump does not have immunity from being prosecuted for crimes he may have committed while in office, People Power United - a progressive grassroots group - issued the following statement:
“Attempting to steal the people’s vote is serious business. People Power United champions the freedom to vote daily. Voting is how we all have a voice and deserve a democracy that serves all of us, not just the rich and powerful.
No one is above the law, and if the indictment charges hold, then our former President, Donald Trump, should face accountability for attempting to silence voters and steal their vote.
The Court of Appeals ruled correctly that no one, including Trump, is above the law. The Supreme Court should let this ruling stand and let justice be served.
People Power United will continue to push back against injustices and hold our leaders accountable to the people they serve. There is no power like that of the people, and People Power United stands ready to protect our communities against any and all injustices,” said Laurie Woodward García of People Power United.
