STATEMENT - People Power United's statement on the MAGA Republican shutdown threats

In response to the recent MAGA Republican shutdown threats, People Power United - a progressive grassroots group - issued the following statement:

“People Power United is pleased there was no government shutdown but angered that our nation’s well-being and security were at risk and that American’s were used as political pawns.

People Power United stands with working folks and families. We stand with the most vulnerable in our community: seniors, folks that are sick or have healthcare issues, folks that are disabled, folks that are poor, and especially our children. We stand with those who protect our community: our military, TSA, and others in our government who are dedicated public servants. It’s unconscionable that MAGA Republicans would rather cut earned benefits like social security or medicare, and social programs to our most vulnerable members of our community, rather than make wealthy and large corporations pay their fare share. It’s also unconscionable that MAGA Republicans would put our nation’s security at risk. Their sense of entitlement and disregard for others who live in our community is shameful and dangerous.

People Power United will continue to push back against injustices and hold our leaders accountable to the people they serve. There is no power like that of the people, and People Power United stands ready to protect our communities against any and all injustices,” said Laurie Woodward García of People Power United.
