The day we give up on holding leaders accountable and disregarding our laws, we are not fit for a democracy.
🗽A well informed citizenry is the best defense against tyranny.
There are moments in your life when you pause. A couple of nights ago, I was working late on the call to action to the Secretaries of States to remove Trump from the ballot, and I had a flashback to early on in my activism. It was about six months before Trump was elected President, and a high school friend of mine posted on Facebook:
"I would never allow a 4-year-old Syrian child into my home."
Those words shook me to my core.
Firstly, as a parent, how could she deny a child's entry? Secondly, as an American, how could she deny entry to someone seeking refuge? Lastly, I knew her to be born again Christian; how could she turn her back on one of God's children? We went back and forth in messages as I pleaded with her to embrace those in need in our community, and then, poof, she blocked me.
That experience pushed me out of my comfort zone, so much so that I decided to volunteer to make calls and door knocks for the Hillary campaign. Although I was a Bernie supporter and he lost the nomination, I knew then, as I do now, that progress is progress, and we would never move forward with Trump as President.
I often think back to moments like that experience with my friend and remember why I am pushing for progress. I will not let fearmongering and ignorance tear back my rights and freedoms or those who live in my community.
I see it also with people pushing back against the removal of Trump from the ballots. Some are afraid of violence, and others are fearful that it opens a Pandora's box.
Ignoring the Constitution is more dangerous. The day we give up on holding leaders accountable and disregarding our laws, we are not fit for a democracy.
Will you join us to push for progress?
People Power actions we can take
People Power United is contacting the chief election officials for each State and letting them know it would be fraudulent to allow someone who committed an insurrection on the Constitution a place on the ballot.
Thanks for taking action! You rock!
Everyone deserves to vote and thrive,

I believe in the power of the people. People Power United members believe in the possibility of change and work to make it happen. I have seen the love and determination of folks stepping up to write letters and postcards to voters, signing petitions and letter campaigns, making calls, sending texts, hitting doors, and dropping literature. There is no power like that of the people, and People Power United stands ready to protect our communities against any and all injustices. - Laurie Woodward Garcia, People Power United

Obama is right.
We are unfit for democracy if we don’t want to hold our leaders accountable.
