In this community, we will always respect our different religious beliefs! I would like to wish all who are celebrating a happy Easter (April 20), happy Passover (April 12-20), and a year of spiritual rewards for all who celebrated Ramadan (February 28-March 29). Wishing you all a year of joyful abundance, peace, and renewed faith. May we all work together for a world that respects and empowers our different religious beliefs.
There’s a hard truth at the heart of American politics today: our democracy is being drowned out by the deafening roar of big money. The ideals we cherish — a government of the people, by the people, for the people — are slipping further away as billionaires and corporate interests tighten their grip on power. But here’s the good news: we, the people, still have the power to change this.
Let’s look at the facts. Out of the 539 members of Congress, only 16 raised more than half of their campaign funds from small donors — everyday people contributing what they can to candidates who fight for them. Yet, these 16 lawmakers still raised an incredible $86 million from small-dollar contributions. That means nearly 60% of their campaign money came from people like you — not corporate checkbooks. These champions of “people power” prove that grassroots support isn’t just possible — it’s powerful.
Now, contrast that with the rest of the political landscape. Only about 1% of Americans donate to candidates, parties, or PACs. That tiny sliver of the population decides who gets to run for office, who gets heard, and whose interests take priority. Meanwhile, during the 2024 presidential election cycle, the wealthiest 100 individuals donated $1.4 billion to Republican candidates and $438 million to Democrats. Big money isn’t just influencing our elections — it’s controlling them.
And it doesn't stop there. The top 50 largest organizations contributed an eye-popping $1.3 billion to Republicans and another $629 million to Democrats. This is money designed to buy access, shape policy, and tilt the playing field in favor of those already at the top. Every dollar from these mega-donors drowns out the voices of regular Americans who just want a government that works for them.
But here’s the critical point: these numbers aren’t just alarming — they’re a call to action. They show us exactly where the problem lies, and more importantly, they reveal the solution. If just a fraction more of us engage — whether by voting, volunteering, or giving even a few dollars to candidates who stand up to big money — we can flip the script. We can take back our democracy from the special interests and make it work for all of us.
This is not a cry for cash; it’s a rallying cry for action. Billionaires and corporations may think they can buy our democracy — but they cannot buy the power of the people. When we come together, our strength doesn’t come from our wallets — it comes from our numbers, our voices, and our determination to build a fairer, freer future.
Expanding civic access is crucial to making this happen. Too many communities — especially young voters, low-income neighborhoods, and marginalized groups — face barriers that keep them out of the political process. From restrictive voting laws to limited access to reliable information, these obstacles silence the very voices we need most at the decision-making table.
When we remove these barriers, we build a democracy that truly reflects all of us. We empower people to fight for better schools, affordable healthcare, clean air and water, and economic justice. We create a system where elected leaders are held accountable to the people — not the highest bidder.
And the benefits don’t stop with one election cycle. Engaging more people in the process builds a culture of lifelong civic participation, especially among younger generations. It fosters a democracy where participation is expected and celebrated — not discouraged or suppressed.
This fight is about more than just getting money out of politics. It’s about justice. It’s about equity. It’s about creating a future where every voice matters, regardless of your zip code, income, or background.
The people are rising up. We see the problem clearly and know the solution is within our reach.
Let’s get to work.
