Hey there,
I know this is a heavy time for our country—and probably for your inbox too. Earlier this month I was on a call with an expert on authoritarianism who confirmed what many of us have feared: America is rapidly sliding into what can now be called an electoral authoritarian regime.
But here’s what I want you to know: we’re not going anywhere.
No matter what happens with this brutal budget fight (now passed the Senate and kicked back to the House), People Power United will keep showing up, speaking out, and building the kind of grassroots power that puts people over profit, democracy over dictatorship, and freedom over fascism.
And because we all need fuel for the fight, I wanted to share this with you: People Power is on the rise!
Incredible news — People Power is on the rise! 🙌
We know the endless wave of headlines, threats, and attacks on our rights and freedoms can feel overwhelming. If you’ve felt discouraged or alone, please know you’re not. Across the country, more and more people are rising up — because we recognize that what unites us is stronger than what divides us. We see each other’s humanity. We know that none of us is truly free until all of us are free. And we believe deeply that everyone deserves dignity, respect, and the chance to thrive.
That’s the heart of People Power United.
As our movement grows—with new people joining daily and longtime champions returning—I want to take a moment to reintroduce what we’re all about and answer some of the most common questions we hear:
Do we fundraise?
Nope. We are a 100% grassroots movement.
🚫 No corporate donors.
🚫 No billionaire backers.
🚫 No paid staff.
Just everyday people—like you—coming together to make real change.
Still, we’ve helped spark thousands of actions across the country to defend democracy and fight for progress.
Why?
Because we don’t believe in paywalls.
We believe in people power.
We use free or low-cost tools powered by volunteers who care deeply. But we can’t do this alone.
Why are comments sometimes closed?
Our chat and post-comment sections are always open to paid subscribers (just $5/month). We wish we could keep them open to all, but as a volunteer-led org, we don’t have the capacity to fend off the trolls, bots, spammers, and bad actors that sometimes flood our spaces. When moderators are available, we open comments up—because your voice matters.
Did you know we get hate mail, threats, and stalkers just for standing up for progress? If you didn’t—good. That means we’re keeping our community safe and informed.
And every single day, even when they try to silence us, we show up to share:
And powerful ways to fight for freedom over fascism with our amazing members.
How can you make a difference from home?

Good Trouble Lives On: A Day of Action
On July 17th, the anniversary of Congressman John Lewis’s passing, People Power United is hosting a virtual event to honor his legacy and defend our rights and freedoms.
As Trump and his allies push voter suppression bills like the SAVE Act and criminalize protest, we’re rising up in nonviolent resistance—because in America, the power belongs to the people.
This isn’t just a virtual rally. It’s a moral stand. It’s Good Trouble—alive and marching forward.

When I heard...late in life ...about DEI...I wondered what had taken so long? Why wouldn't ANYONE want diversity??? Yes. even straight people with half a brain get it!!!!
I have lived from Coast to Coast and abroad. In huge cities (I love them!) and small towns . Most small towns are simply not my preference. Narrow minded means you go through every day sideways, trying to be sure you don't smile or embrace the "wrong" people. Right now I live in a city( within a large city )of Gay and Straight folks. WHat a hoot! what a population! What a joy!
