📢 Trump’s Escalating Threats to Biden Endanger Us All
🗽Throughout history, real progress has come when ordinary people unite. We are at another defining moment. Our rights, freedoms, and democracy are under attack. But history shows us the way forward.
This week, former President Donald Trump, now a 34-time convicted felon, made an alarming statement on Truth Social. He openly threatened his predecessor, President Joe Biden, and every member of the January 6th House Select Committee with legal retribution.
Friendly reminder: The January 6 Committee carried out the job we, the people, entrusted them with—investigating the attack on our Capitol by a violent mob incited by Donald Trump. Their findings revealed that as Capitol Police officers and others were being beaten and our democracy was under siege, Trump stood by and did nothing for hours.
But this isn’t just about Biden—it’s about all of us. What does it mean when a leader targets those who oppose him? What stops him from going after everyday citizens who dare to speak out?
When a leader targets their political enemies, it creates a dangerous climate of fear, oppression, and instability within a community. It undermines democracy, erodes trust in institutions, and often leads to widespread human rights abuses. History has repeatedly shown that authoritarian leaders who crack down on dissent not only harm their political opponents but also devastate the broader society. Examples from Russia, North Korea, and other dictatorships illustrate the dangers of unchecked power and political persecution.
Russia: The Silencing of Dissent
Under Vladimir Putin’s rule, Russia has become a prime example of what happens when a leader aggressively targets political opposition. The assassination of opposition figures, imprisonment of critics, and suppression of independent media have turned Russia into an autocratic state where dissent is dangerous. One of the most well-known cases is that of Alexei Navalny, a fierce Putin critic. Navalny survived a poisoning attempt in 2020, an attack widely believed to have been carried out by Russian state agents. After recovering in Germany, he returned to Russia only to be immediately arrested and sentenced to years in prison under fabricated charges. His death in February 2024 while in Russian custody serves as a stark reminder of the lethal consequences of opposing an authoritarian leader.
Beyond individual cases, Putin’s crackdown on independent journalism and civil society has created a chilling effect. Thousands of Russians have been arrested for protesting against the war in Ukraine, and many more have fled the country to escape political persecution. This stifling of opposition not only silences critics but also isolates Russia on the global stage, leading to economic decline and worsening conditions for ordinary citizens.
North Korea: Totalitarian Suppression
North Korea, under the Kim dynasty, provides an extreme example of how a regime targeting its perceived enemies leads to an entire nation living in fear. The government tightly controls every aspect of life, and even the slightest hint of disloyalty can result in imprisonment, forced labor, or execution.
One of the most infamous cases of political persecution in North Korea was the execution of Jang Song-thaek, the uncle of leader Kim Jong-un. Once a powerful figure within the regime, Jang was accused of treason and executed in 2013. His associates and family members were reportedly purged as well, reinforcing the regime’s absolute grip on power.
The impact on the broader community is devastating. Ordinary citizens live in a constant state of fear, knowing that even an offhand remark could lead to their imprisonment in one of North Korea’s brutal labor camps. The country’s policies have led to mass starvation, economic collapse, and a complete lack of personal freedoms. In targeting political enemies, the Kim regime has made all citizens potential targets.
Other Dictatorships: A Global Pattern
Dictatorships across the world follow similar patterns of targeting political enemies, with disastrous consequences for their communities. In China, under Xi Jinping, crackdowns on political dissidents, human rights activists, and religious minorities—such as Uyghur Muslims—have led to mass detentions and forced labor camps. In Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman ordered the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi, sending a clear message that dissent would not be tolerated.
When leaders like 34-time convicted felon President Trump target their political enemies, they don’t just eliminate opposition—they destroy civil liberties, weaken democratic institutions, and create a climate where fear replaces freedom. The entire community suffers as justice becomes a tool of repression, economic hardship increases, and society loses the ability to challenge its rulers. Without accountability, leaders can wield unchecked power, turning their nations into prisons for their own people.
We are at another defining moment. Our rights, freedoms, and democracy are under attack. But history shows us the way forward: We need to organize and mobilize.

We will speak out against injustice, show up in every way possible—from the streets to the ballot box—and build a movement strong enough to replace any leader who fails to serve the people’s interests. This is not just about one election or one moment; it’s about securing a future where freedom triumphs over fascism. Now is our time to rise.

In the United States, the rule of law is king—not Donald Trump. Every member of Congress must speak out against his attempts to undermine our courts and bypass the legal system and speak out against threats to former President Biden and the January 6th committee. It is critical to begin impeachment hearings immediately to investigate potential violations of the law, expose corruption, and address threats to national security.
