Wherever I have organized, whether it was in Boston, Utah, Miami, Palm Beach, or Broward, there were many times that I came face to face with MAGA extremists and witnessed firsthand their sick, perverted attacks on our community. We had people spit at us, throw garbage at us, shout profanities, and more while door-knocking, assembled for a rally, or standing peacefully on a busy downtown corner holding protest signs. It didn't matter if we were there for environmental justice, reproductive justice, ending wars, or speaking out for impeachment of Trump; the MAGA Republican cult would come out and attempt to silence our dissent.

Cults (and fascists) want a supreme leader to control everything. And this cult intends to keep on rolling to let Trump (or whoever their next radical pick is) silence our dissent. I believe that as pathetic and soon-to-be-irrelevant Trump is, the attempts to silence our dissent will not stop.

The attack on our Capitol on January 6th was never about Trump or the cult that supported his coup. Joe Biden won the presidency with 306 electoral votes (well over the 270 needed to win) and over 51% of the popular vote.

The attack that happened was an attempt to silence dissenters.

Trump and his followers hate dissenters. That is how a cult rolls.

As a mom, I know that when something goes wrong in my home, I have to find the root cause of the problem. Its source is sometimes simple, but it's often more complex. The second is what I see here in America. We are a country of people — not Democrats, not Republicans. We are a nation of moms, dads, abuelas, abuelos, aunties, uncles, and chosen family and friends. And our American family has lost its way. We have forgotten we belong to one another, that we are our brothers' and sisters' keepers. We have wayward leaders who have abandoned this family.

In my family, we meet our challenges head-on. We learn about the issue, we discuss, we debate, and we come together in action to fix the problem. We need our American family to do the same. And there will be naysayers who have lost hope. But I believe the second most significant threat to this family, aside from crazed conservatives, MAGA extremists, and radical Republicans, are the "dream busters" — those who make excuses not to take action. Lift your head and ignore them. I have hope in my family. I know we are not perfect. I know we are a work in progress. Some leaders may or may not change their ways. I will not let their choices talk me out of advocating for this family, nor should you. We will call, click, tweet, door knock, donate, and write postcards and letters, and we will continue to do so because we must stand up and speak out when our family is under attack. We must advocate on issues and work to mobilize voters to elect candidates that will represent the will of the people. And we must push back against the cult’s attempt to silence our dissent. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY.

Our cause is just; we are led by people power, and with love in our hearts and hard work, we will reclaim our nation from the cruelty, chaos, and confusion.
