Why I went to Schumer's office yesterday

We value our freedom to vote to elect leaders who respect our will, protect our interests, and govern in our name. Sadly, that right is under attack. With increasing mistrust in the electoral process, politicians on the right have sought to capitalize on the public’s fears by lashing out at the people who make our elections happen, and by pushing to dismantle the electoral process itself. In light of the January 6th attacks and the involvement of certain politicians in the push to overturn the 2020 election, we can and must push for leaders on the local, state, and federal levels to stand strong and protect our freedoms and our right to vote.

Why I went to Schumer’s office yesterday

It is my duty to fight for my community.

It is my duty to fight for my family.

It is my duty to fight for my freedom and rights.

Yesterday, I went to the Supreme Court and later visited Leader Schumer’s office because it is my duty as a citizen, as a wife and mom, and as a community member to let our representatives know the people demand accountability and transparency. I had the honor to join other community members and leaders of groups that represent millions of Americans who are disgruntled with the extremism and corruption coming from the Supreme Court.

I also went because thousands of people who wrote our People Power United letters and signed our petitions trusted me to deliver their demands.

I am proud to say our efforts were rewarded quickly, as Senator Durbin, and the Judiciary committee announced they will be seeking subpoenas from Harland Crow, Leonard Leo, and others who have conflicts of interest with the Supreme Court and who may of used trips, a luxury RV, home purchase, and other items to curry favor with Justice Thomas and Justice Alito. We sought accountability and it appears we might get it!

Many people believe activism and fighting for our rights and freedoms is a waste of time. I disagree. I believe that making excuses is a waste of time. I also believe looking the other way makes you complicit in the harm happening and I refuse to look the other way because:

Racism is wrong.

Xenophobia is wrong.

Islamophobia is wrong.

Anti-semitism is wrong.

Homophobia is wrong.

Misogyny is wrong.

Ageism is wrong.

Ableism is wrong.

Sizeism is wrong.

Elitism is wrong.

Bigotry is wrong.

As long as there is a breath in my body and I have the ability to stand up and fight these travesties, I will be there with my fists in the air.

Thank you everyone who joined me yesterday, and every day you sign petitions, write letters, make phone calls, and do the work to make change happen! I am honored to be in this fight for justice with you!

Over 400,000 signatures were delivered to the offices of Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and Judiciary Chair Dick Durbin urging Senate leaders to act swiftly to address corruption on the Court.

Our group is growing leaps and bounds! Folks understand that with love in our hearts and hard work, we will reclaim our nation from the cruelty, chaos, and confusion. And we are having fun making impactful changes in our community! In case you missed it, this past week was busy:

• In response to the announcement of Texas US district court judge, Matthew Kasmaryck to order a trial for April 2024 against Planned Parenthood, People Power United issued a statement on behalf of our members.

• People Power United joined other local, state, and national groups to urge Senator Menendez to resign.

• People Power United submitted a letter to the Oversight committee of META on behalf of our membership.

• Laurie issued a statement on Israel and Palestine. Here is our call to action supporting a cease fire.

• Our members took over 19,000 actions.
