🗽Our democracy, economy, and freedoms are at risk, and Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is stepping up to fight for all of us
Rick Scott and the MAGA Republicans, including former President and convicted felon Donald Trump, have consistently demonstrated their willingness to undermine American democracy, our rights, and our national security. This isn't exaggerated rhetoric—it's a documented reality. From threats to Social Security and Medicare to opposing climate change solutions, Rick Scott's record reveals policies that favor the wealthy at the expense of everyday Americans.
In contrast, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell offers a path forward with a proven track record of defending healthcare, protecting our environment, and promoting economic equality. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is exceptionally qualified to serve as a U.S. Senator, thanks to her significant experience in public service and politics. As a former U.S. Representative for Florida's 26th district, she focused on issues like healthcare, gun control, and environmental protection. She also has a solid academic foundation with a B.A. in political science and an M.A. in international political economy. Her experience working in non-profits and as a university administrator adds to her leadership skills. Unlike her opponent, Rick Scott, Debbie Mucarsel-Powell will protect our rights, freedoms, democracy, and the rule of law.
Now is the time to act. Join us in championing her candidacy by texting voters or writing postcards to voters and safeguarding our nation's values. Together, we can push back against dangerous agendas and build a future where our national security, rights, freedoms, and democracy are secure.
When people show you who they are, believe them
Rick Scott as U.S. Senator:
Proposed Ending Medicare and Social Security – Rick Scott's controversial 11-Point Plan to Rescue America included provisions requiring Congress to reauthorize Medicare and Social Security every five years, which critics said could lead to their potential elimination.
Blocked Efforts to Lower Prescription Drug Prices – Scott opposed Democratic efforts to allow Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices. This could have saved billions and made life-saving medications more affordable for millions.
Opposed Expanded Healthcare Access—Scott has consistently opposed efforts to expand the Affordable Care Act (ACA) and has been a vocal critic of Medicare for All, hindering efforts to ensure healthcare coverage for millions of Americans.
Voted Against Gun Control Legislation – Despite mass shootings, Scott has consistently opposed stronger gun control laws, including voting against background checks and assault weapon bans.
Opposed Climate Change Initiatives – As a senator, Scott has downplayed the importance of addressing climate change, refusing to support significant climate action policies that could help mitigate the impact of rising sea levels and extreme weather in Florida.
Opposed Voting Rights Protections – Scott voted against the For the People Act and other voting rights legislation aimed at protecting and expanding access to voting, which critics say disenfranchises vulnerable populations.
Supported the 2017 GOP Tax Cuts for Corporations – Scott supported the GOP tax cuts, which disproportionately benefited the wealthy and corporations while adding to the national debt.
Has Ties to Corporate Donors and Numerous Conflicts of Interest – Scott has been accused of working in the interests of his corporate donors, including pushing for deregulation that benefits large companies at the expense of consumers and the environment.
Opposed Federal COVID-19 Relief Efforts—Scott was critical of large COVID-19 relief packages, opposing direct payments to Americans during the pandemic, which many saw as necessary for economic recovery.
Opposed Minimum Wage Increases – Scott has consistently opposed raising the federal minimum wage, which would have lifted millions of low-wage workers out of poverty.
Rick Scott as Governor of Florida:
Refused Medicaid Expansion – Scott refused to expand Medicaid under the ACA, denying healthcare access to over 800,000 low-income Floridians despite federal funding being available.
Cut Public Healthcare Funding – Under his administration, Scott cut millions from Florida's public hospitals and healthcare systems, straining resources and making it harder for vulnerable communities to access care.
Involved in a Medicare Fraud Scandal – Before his time as governor, Scott's company, Columbia/HCA, was involved in one of the largest Medicare fraud cases in U.S. history, ultimately paying $1.7 billion in fines. While Scott claimed ignorance, the scandal raised significant ethical concerns about his leadership.
Privatization of State Prisons – Scott's administration pushed for the privatization of Florida's prison system, which critics said prioritized profits over inmate safety and contributed to poor conditions and mismanagement.
Environmental Deregulation – Scott significantly weakened Florida's environmental protections, allowing for increased pollution from industries such as agriculture and development, contributing to problems like toxic algae blooms and water contamination.
Slashed Public Education Funding – Scott cut billions from Florida's education budget, forcing schools to deal with overcrowding, underpaid teachers, and a lack of resources.
Ignored Sea-Level Rise—During his tenure as governor, Scott reportedly banned state agencies from using terms like "climate change" and "global warming," which hindered Florida's ability to prepare for rising sea levels and other environmental threats.
Supported Voter Suppression Tactics – Scott's administration implemented restrictive voting laws, including reducing early voting days and purging voter rolls, which disproportionately affected minority and low-income voters.
Undermined Public Transportation – Scott rejected $2.4 billion in federal funding for high-speed rail in Florida, a project that would have improved public transportation and created jobs.
Caused additional COVID-19 Pandemic harm to our nation- Though Scott was no longer governor during the pandemic, he publicly supported Florida's lax COVID-19 restrictions, including reopening businesses and schools early, which many criticized as contributing to higher infection and death rates.
Promoted Charter Schools and Vouchers – Scott aggressively promoted charter and private school vouchers, diverting funding from public schools and creating a two-tier education system that critics say undermines educational equality.
Disaster Relief Mismanagement—During Scott's governorship, Florida's disaster response, particularly to hurricanes, was criticized for poor coordination and inadequate relief for low-income and minority communities.
Disbanded Water Management Protections – Scott dismantled the state's Department of Community Affairs, which oversaw growth management, and slashed water management district budgets, contributing to unchecked development and water pollution.
Opposed to Marijuana Legalization – Scott opposed medical marijuana legalization efforts in Florida, even as voters overwhelmingly supported it, delaying the implementation of laws that would help patients.
Restricted Women's Reproductive Rights – Scott signed multiple anti-abortion bills into law, including restrictions on abortion providers and requirements for ultrasounds before abortions, limiting women's access to reproductive healthcare.
These actions and policies reflect decisions that have posed significant threats to public health, environmental safety, economic equality, and democratic processes. Rick Scott is a clear and present danger to all Americans, and as a grassroots group that champions power and progress for the people, we are all in to help Debbie Mucarsel-Powell win the U.S. Senate race in Florida.

Let us not forget - Rick Scott engaged in Medicare FRAUD as the CEO of Columbia/HCA! As a senior in Florida, I find this to be totally unacceptable and should prevent him being allowed to continue in office to dismantle Medicare for all Americans.
