🗽You are the hero of this American Story
Some people want it to happen, some wish it would happen, others make it happen. - Michael Jordan
Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there and all who fill that role! We ❤️ you!
Before I jump into today's topic, if you have not, please read yesterday's post "You do not get to complain if you are unwilling to do the work to make change happen."
People Power United members do what must be done and seek no other validation. Like heroes, they don't complain; they do something! They are selfless, seeking no glory or limelight. They see a problem and jump in to fix it. They make our lives better just by doing.
That is you. You are the hero of our American story.
Our toolbox for progress includes voting, advocacy, connecting with our community, and helping people learn about issues and voting.
We have a lot of stubborn folks with whom we rub elbows, so we need all of our tools! Just like those weeds that are bugging me in my garden, I need to use many things to pull those suckers out. One of the tools in our toolbox is Postcards and Letters to Voters.
We write postcards to targeted voters to increase turnout in close, critical elections nationwide. Then, we take our campaigns into our neighborhoods by writing postcards to voters with our family, friends, and other community members. Is it the only tool we need? Nope! We need them all to keep making good trouble!
🗽Postcard and Letter Writing to Voters
People Power United folks rock! To date, they have written over half a million letters and postcards! We are making change happen! FYI, our letter and postcard writing is happening year-round.
Here are some ways to plug into this fantastic and powerful way to engage community members on issues and voting.
Postcards to Voters
Postcards To Voters is a group of volunteers who write postcards (and letters) to targeted voters in the hope of increasing turnout in close, key elections across the country. We do this in our homes, with friends, and in our communities.
You can choose between the Partisan or Non-Partisan postcard campaigns:

People Power United now offers postcards! Check out our newest design(s) here. Your purchase helps our People Power efforts. You are also welcome to use plain cardstock or order cards from Etsy or Amazon; the designs are entirely up to you.
For the non-partisan cards we send for Center for Common Ground, we recommend this fantastic design that helps a small minority-owned business.
Where to get addresses and scripts for what to write: Click here to request more addresses and scripts for what to write.
After you request your addresses and scripts, you will see an invite from Sincere in your email box (if you don't see it, please check spam). Please give us a few days to send your invite; we have a lot of writers to process. In the upper left corner, depending on the type of campaign you requested, you can choose from Partisan (People Power United) or Non-Partisan (Center for Common Ground). Then head to 'campaigns I'm working on' to pull down your addresses, script, and instructions.

Letter Writing to Voters
Letter Writing To Voters is a group of volunteers who write letters (and postcards) to targeted voters to increase turnout in close, key elections across the country. You can choose between the Partisan or Non-Partisan letter campaigns.
You can write letters to voters by visiting our Swing Left partner, Vote Forward: http://votefwd.org/swingleft. Supplies needed: blank paper, envelopes, Forever stamps, and a printer. Steps needed: sign up and get approved, choose the state you are helping, choose the number of letters—5 or 20—download and print letters, address letters and envelopes, and mail.

Tips for writing postcards or letters:
Please write legibly and avoid using cursive script.
Do not sign your last name.
Friendly reminder: even though your labels may have a name, do not use the names on the labels. Use instead “Our Friends at,” “Our Neighbors at,” “Essential Voters,” “VIP Voters,” etc. That way , if there is a move by the family, your postcards or letters will still be delivered.
Feel free to make your postcards colorful!
When you purchase stamps for postcards, make sure to get the postcard stamps, which are cheaper than the standard ones. For letters, we recommend the forever stamps.
Please include the Spanish and Creole lines, as this outreach includes Hispanic and Creole-speaking voters (if your instructions include it).
Shred addresses. Do not reuse or share.
Could you send us photos? We love seeing your impact on our community. Please email your pictures to your organizer. Thanks so much for your activism!
Does postcards and letter writing work?
“the study quantifiably found the letters boosted targeted voters’ turnout by 0.8 percentage points.”

I would like to use the “People Power” post card for our Democratic candidate for The Senate. May I contact her office to see if we can use The “ People Power” post cards or is that something you would do as the founder of this great organization. I haven’t figured out how to contact you directly but maybe others outside of Fla have this question too and you could let us know.
I was assigned postcards to Arizona but I’m worried that my efforts might end up being useless if people have to leave their homes because of the fires.
