As working and retired members of our community, each and everyone of us deserves our earned benefits. No one should be expected to work without being paid.

Congressional MAGA Republicans want your earned benefits: Social Security and Medicare

Thirteen time loser Kevin McCarthy gained his position as Speaker by caving to MAGA Republican extremists (Matt Gaetz of Florida, Tim Burchett of Tennessee, Anna Paulina Luna of Florida, Eli Crane of Arizona, Andy Ogles of Tennessee, Matt Rosendale of Montana, Andy Biggs of Arizona, Dan Bishop of North Carolina, Wesley Hunt of Texas, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, and Cory Mills of Florida) and now that concession will harm millions.¹ Those same MAGA Republican extremists are refusing to pass several spending bills unless their cruel attacks can continue.

MAGA Republicans would rather cut Social Security and Medicare and gut investments in the middle class than make the wealthy or large corporations pay their fair share. They are willing to shut down the government and harm millions of Americans. Just this morning they attempted to set up a commission that would fast track cuts to Social Security, Medicare, and other government programs.

According to Social Security Works: Eighty-three percent of Democrats, 73 percent of independents, and 73 percent of Republicans want to expand² Social Security and pay for it by making the wealthy contribute their fair share. That’s the real ‘bipartisan solution’ — but Republican politicians refuse to support it. 

Cruelty is the point

Here is what the MAGA Republicans are advocating for:

• Cuts to Medicare providers who assist seniors and people with disabilities

• Cuts to Head Start, SNAP, TANF, and WIC

• Loss of access to nutritious food for pregnant and postpartum women and children by underfunding the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children; and deterioration in service for the over 71 million Americans who rely on Social Security Programs³

• Cuts to K-12 education

• Jailing and deporting unaccompanied children

• Gutting humanitarian aid programs including legal services, trauma-informed care, and community-based services

• Building Trump’s border wall

No one should be expected to work without being paid

Starting on Sunday, members of the Military, TSA, traffic controllers, passport agency workers, CBP, ICE, postal workers, transportation workers, and others are being asked to come to work without pay, because these MAGA extremists are pitching a hissy fit. They want cuts to your earned benefits, they want to impose their radical beliefs on the majority of America, and they want people to suffer.

Announcements

Our group is growing leaps and bounds! Folks understand that with love in our hearts and hard work, we will reclaim our nation from the cruelty, chaos, and confusion. And we are having fun making impactful changes in our community! In case you missed it, this past week was busy!

• People Power United joins the Interfaith Alliance, advocates, and groups to send a letter to Congressional leaders to strongly oppose any amendments proposed to the appropriation bills that are anti-LGTBQ+.

• People Power United joins advocates and groups to urge Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts to force members to recuse from cases when there is a conflict of interest.

• People Power United joined over 400 local, state, and national groups to send a message to President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas to protect immigrant families by redesignating TPS for El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras & Nepal, & designate/redesignate TPS for other countries that qualify, including Guatemala & Venezuela.

• In response to the United Auto Workers strike, People Power United - a progressive grassroots group - joined several other organizations to send a letter to the Big 3 Auto CEOs.

• Please note some of the calls-to-actions we share do ask for additional information, i.e. the office of the president and vice-president request a phone number to submit a comment, sometimes they will ask for this information for each and every action. OUR GROUP DOES NOT SHARE DATA, we only directly forward your comment, letter, petition, etc to the recipient. We are about people power, and not spamming, or utilizing your data in a harmful manner. If you are uncomfortable providing a phone number we recommend getting a Google voice number (they are free) and using that for your activism efforts. Some folks have reached out frustrated that the titles/pronouns differ based on the target you are writing. There is also some angst regarding the subjects. Unfortunately our targets all require these formats. It is really troubling they can not acknowledge members of our community or make it easier to pick a subject. People Power United is committed to holding leaders accountable and we will continue to advocate for these changes.
