📢 It isn’t enough to talk about peace. One must believe in it. And it isn’t enough to believe in it. One must work at it. – Eleanor Roosevelt
"Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world. For, indeed, that's all who ever have." - Margaret Mead.
Friends, just like you, I am saddened to see the disagreements around the Israel-Hamas war spill over into violent confrontations in our communities.Â

I am also distraught that the hostages have not been returned to their families in Israel, and I am equally appalled that 34,000 people have died in Gaza, with the majority being women and children, and that thousands of refugees have been displaced from their homes in Gaza and are now facing mass starvation.Â
I am also disheartened by the people in our communities using their anger to obstruct a constructive path toward an immediate solution or lasting peace. Most conversations around this issue devolve into "My people are suffering worse than yours" or "Have you seen how your people are using rape and torture against my people." Then, they want to spend the rest of the conversation upping each other with photos and videos.
I am not an expert on war, but I am smart enough to know that we will never achieve peace unless we agree on the basics. For example, everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and respect and afforded the opportunity to thrive. I believe anyone who can't agree to that basic premise to be a war instigator. I see it all over the news and on social media; many people say they want peace, but in reality, they spend their time using inciteful language and images and offer nothing positive toward a solution.
I know many people are upset with Congress and Biden; I get it. I agree with Bernie1; it appears that Israel is violating international and US law, and we should not continue to give them billions of dollars. We can not just complain; we all must continue to pressure Biden and Congress to seek a cease-fire and hold Israel and Hamas responsible for any war crimes they have committed. And we must continue to pressure Biden and Congress to work with our allies in coalition to provide relief to the war refugees in Gaza.
I hope you will join our people power efforts and advocate for:
a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war
a return of the hostages
providing aid to refugees displaced by the war
a pathway to a two-state solution
accountability for anyone accused of war crimes

People Power United's statement on the Student Protests
As a grassroots progressive organization, we support the right to assemble and protest.
Additionally, we have and will continue to champion a cease-fire in the Israel-Hamas war, a return of the hostages, providing aid to refugees displaced by the war, a pathway to a two-state solution, and accountability for anyone accused of war crimes.
Lastly, we do not condone the destruction of property or physical harm to anyone trying to exercise their right to protest.
Universities and Colleges are beacons for open discourse and should encourage the right to assemble, the right to protest, and the right to disagree. They should not tolerate the destruction of property or harm to individuals on their campuses and are well within their rights to ask security to remove anyone causing such disruption.Â
I hope you will join our people power efforts and advocate for:
the right to assemble and peacefully protest
standing up against the destruction of property
standing up against violence towards police or protestors
