Laurie's statement on Israel and Palestine
🗽Commitment is an act, not a word. - Jean-Paul Sartre
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 13, 2023
Earlier today, I sent out a post/email that contained People Power United’s statement on the dispute between Hamas and Israel:
“People Power United stands with the people of Israel who have been brutally attacked by the terrorist organization, Hamas. We condemn the killings, kidnappings, and terror that has been unleashed on Israel.
People Power United also stands with the innocent people of Palestine who are also being used as human pawns by the terrorist organization Hamas in its dispute with Israel.
We call on America to support a free and just Israel and Palestine and take every action to ensure peace in the middle East.” said Laurie Woodward García of People Power United.
I have received messages from people saying that I have not stood up for Palestinians nor denounced the ongoing political and economic oppression by Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Jerusalem.
Let me be very clear, killing innocent Israelis is not acceptable. Ever.
Oppressing and killing of Palestinians is also not acceptable. It never has been, and it never will be.
Killing off thousands of people in Gaza of which half are children is not acceptable.
Lastly, some of you may not know but this personal for me. Deeply personal. I made a commitment when I left suburbia in 2016 to fight for a better tomorrow for my why, that I would show up for my Muslim and Jewish brothers and sisters (and all who needed an ally for justice), and I am not abandoning that commitment.
I have stood up for my Muslim and Jewish brothers and sisters and will continue to do so:
I have marched numerous times:
I have traveled (more than once) to the state capitol to lobby for my Muslim brothers and sisters:
My commitment to free the oppressed will not stop. I will not stop fighting for a free Palestine, and I will not stop denouncing the killing of innocent people in Israel, Palestine, and all places where evil has taken root.
Once again, I call on all good people to join me in standing up against all forms of hatred and bigotry.

I believe in the power of the people. I have seen the love and determination of folks stepping up to write letters and postcards to voters, signing petitions and letter campaigns, making calls, sending texts, hitting doors, and dropping literature. There is no power like that of the people, and People Power United stands ready to protect our communities against any and all injustices. - Laurie Woodward Garcia, People Power United
All acts of terror and war endanger all of us. If we stand together to oppose all and any of these acts then maybe someday our children will live in a peaceful earth where we all reside.
Stay the course Laurie. I too know how difficult it can be to bear witness and get beat up by haters from both “sides”. Remember that you are not alone. Sending you a big hug.
