I have seen your people power, your words, and actions, moving towards a community free of racism, xenophobia, islamophobia, anti-semitism, homophobia, misogyny, sizeism, ageism, ableism, elitism, and bigotry! We have big plans for 2024 to continue making positive changes and taking actions that move us forward on issues that our communities care about. If you love our work and want to support us, please consider pledging $5 monthly to People Power United.
People Power New Year Resolutions for fighting fascism
Focus on the Why
Remember the why. Fighting fascism can be complex or powered by love and be rewarding. Find what you are passionate about and use your passion to power you through this next year. Here is a photo of one of my whys:
I am also passionate about reproductive justice, economic justice, fighting corruption, gun safety reform, civil rights, voting rights, immigration reform, healthcare justice, our freedoms and rights, and the climate crisis. What are you passionate about? 2024 will be bumpy, so use what you are passionate about to power you through difficult times.
Display our strength and what we stand for
Remember, the more we talk about Trump, the more we normalize him. We need to focus on our strengths and what we stand for.
Our cause is just; we are led by people power, and with love in our hearts and hard work, we will reclaim our nation from the cruelty, chaos, and confusion.
Americans value our freedom to elect leaders who respect our will, protect our interests, and govern in our name, from the president to local representatives.
Republicans show us who they are by supporting a presidential candidate whom various competent judges have found to be an insurrectionist and a sexual offender. Trump is pathetic, and soon to be irrelevant, a failed business person whose only success came from fraud and other criminal activity and as a habitual criminal will most likely be in jail by November.
Republicans have shown us who they are by wanting to rule over us, not represent us. They have shown us who they are by deliberately spreading false claims to distract us from their plans to take away our freedoms, let corporations gauge our families, threaten Social Security and Medicare, and destroy programs our families need.1
Republicans deliberately spread lies, embrace corrupt party members, and distract us so they can seize wealth and power and take away our freedoms.
We must vote! We need to replace Republicans and wayward Democrats like Sinema and Manchin with leaders who respect our rights and freedoms and who will act in our best interests, and govern in our name. We must display our People Power strength and advocate on our issues. We must elect leaders and hold them responsible to ensure equitable rights and freedoms:
Everyone deserves to be treated with dignity and be afforded housing, healthcare, and education. Regardless of whether you have a job or not. Regardless of your age, race, sex, or religion. Additionally, we all deserve clean air and water and a community safe from gun violence.
We must come together, united in people power, just like in the past, and protect our families, our freedoms, and our futures.
Listen more
I am a big believer that many of our policy differences are because we speak to people rather than listen. I will be working on my listening skills to seek out common ground and push for progress with folks in my community. I will not waste my time with the die-hard Kool-Aid drinkers who want to spout off conspiracy theories or blame one party or politician but offer no real solution or proof that they are pulling folks in to lean towards progress. I hope you will join me in listening more to folks in our community.
Counter lies with truth, call out bigotry and hate.
I am a fan girl of Robert Reich who shared this recently:
“Do not resort to name-calling, bullying, intimidation, violence, or any of the other tactics that Trump followers may be using.
Don't waste your time commiserating with people who already agree with you. Don't gripe, whine, wring your hands, and kvetch with other anti-Trumpers about how awful Trump and his Republican enablers are. Don't snivel over or criticize Biden and the Democrats for failing to communicate more effectively how bad Trump and his Republican enablers are. None of this will get you anything except an upset stomach or worse.
Don't decide to sit this election out or vote for a third-party candidate because you don't especially like Biden and you're tired of voting for the "lesser of two evils." Biden may not be perfect, but he's not the lesser of two evils. Trump is truly evil.”2
Become more politically active
Robert Reich also shared this: "Even if you cannot take much time out of your normal life for direct politics, you will need to organize, mobilize, and energize your friends, colleagues, and neighbors." Here are some quick and easy ways to become more politically active:

I believe in the power of the people. People Power United members believe in the possibility of change and work to make it happen. I have seen the love and determination of folks stepping up to write letters and postcards to voters, signing petitions and letter campaigns, making calls, sending texts, hitting doors, and dropping literature. There is no power like that of the people, and People Power United stands ready to protect our communities against any and all injustices. - Laurie Woodward Garcia, People Power United
