A few years ago after Trump took office the first time, I recorded a video, not knowing it would mark the beginning of my journey to speak out and advocate for my community. Like many of you, I was deeply frustrated by the growing slide toward fascism in America. But with the support and passion of so many, what started as Broward for Progress (a handful of door knockers) has grown into People Power United—a grassroots movement now powered by thousands of people taking hundreds of thousands of actions for justice and equality.
I truly believe that bad things happen when good people remain silent. Some say that one person can’t make a difference, but I see it differently. Each of our small actions—when multiplied by thousands—creates real change. And you, along with everyone who calls People Power United home, are that change. Together, we are building the future we all deserve.
And the proof is in what we’ve accomplished. People Power United has become a home for hope and action, connecting over 200,000 individuals from all 50 states and even U.S. territories. No fundraising, no constant emails asking for donations, no pressure from special interests. We are powered by people like You. It’s a place where everyone is welcome—regardless of background or political leanings. We know that people can feel disillusioned with their local or state party, whether Democrat or Republican. But here, we are united by a shared commitment to progress and the belief that power truly belongs to the people.
We don’t have to agree on every issue or policy to stand together. What unites us is far greater than what divides us. This is a movement built on the understanding that our collective power can overcome any challenge. In that spirit, let us remember this poignant truth:
First, they came for people of color, and I did not speak out.
Then they came for Muslim folks, and I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Undocumented folks, and I did not speak out.
Then they came for Jewish folks, and I did not speak out.
Then they came for the LGBQIA+ and Trans community, and I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Women, and I did not speak out.
Then they came for the people of Ukraine, Israel, Palestine, and all war zones and I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Elderly, and I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Poor, and I did not speak out.
Then they came for the Sick, and I did not speak out.
Then they came for me—and no one was left to speak out for me.

Let’s continue to rise together and speak out for those who cannot.
In this community, we will never stay silent in the face of hate or bigotry. We stand up and speak out against racism, xenophobia, islamophobia, antisemitism, homophobia, misogyny, sexism, ageism, ableism, sizeism, elitism, transphobia, misogynoir, and every form of discrimination that seeks to divide and harm.
We are the change we’ve been waiting for. Let’s keep pushing forward with courage, unity, and determination.
