Friends, as you know, I don’t usually send two messages in one day—but the events unfolding in Los Angeles demand an urgent response. Thank you for your support and understanding.
What happened in Los Angeles is an outrage—and a warning to us all.
Using rifles, tear gas, and stun grenades, federal agents attacked American residents gathered in nonviolent protest. These were not “operations.” This was state-sponsored terror.
Let’s name this for what it is: a fascist escalation by a desperate regime.
Donald Trump’s militarized ICE raids in Los Angeles—backed by National Guard troops, rifles, and stun grenades—are a terrifying escalation of authoritarian power. Peaceful protesters were met with state violence, and respected labor leaders like SEIU California’s David Huerta 1 were violently arrested. Let’s be clear: this is not about safety. It’s about fear, control, and turning the military against our own people to silence dissent and dehumanize immigrants. This is state-sponsored terror—part of the broader mass deportation agenda pushed by 34-time convicted felon Donald Trump and his Republican cult of obedience. It’s an agenda that violates human rights, ignores due process, and attacks the very foundation of our democracy.
Even the Los Angeles Police Department acknowledged the protests were peaceful. 2 But that didn’t matter to Trump. Peace doesn’t serve his agenda—chaos does. So they sent in ICE with military gear and brought in the National Guard, not to protect the public, but to intimidate and silence it. This wasn’t law enforcement—it was occupation. These tactics echo the behavior of authoritarian regimes, not democracies.
We must respond with unity and action
We must stay committed to nonviolence. As Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, nonviolence is our most powerful weapon for justice. That means we must act within the laws of this nation—through peaceful protest, civil disobedience, and by organizing to build community power and lasting change.

People Power United’s Statement
It is a sad day for America and the world when the President of the United States turns against his country.
Convicted felon President Donald Trump has turned his back on America, its laws, and our community members.
We strongly denounce the violent escalation by ICE and the deployment of the National Guard against peaceful protesters and immigrant communities in Los Angeles. What unfolded was not law enforcement—it was a show of force designed to intimidate, silence, and criminalize dissent. Peaceful demonstrators were met with rifles, stun grenades, and tear gas in an appalling abuse of power that mirrors the tactics of authoritarian regimes. This assault on civil liberties and immigrant families is a direct attack on our democracy—and we refuse to stand by in silence.
People Power United will continue to push back against injustices and hold our leaders accountable to the people they serve. There is no power like that of the people, and People Power United stands ready to protect our communities against any and all injustices," said Laurie Woodward García of People Power United.
We are not just resisting—we are reclaiming, rebuilding, and rising. Let’s do it together.
With fierce resolve and people power,

This is a self-fulfilling prophecy for disaster. If it can happen in California, against the Governor's will and specific direction, it can happen in anyone's state. Dangerous and disgusting.
I’m outraged by how the press is covering this. The headlines are all some variation on “…Violent Protests…”
