Hey there! I want to take a moment to address the dangers of solely blaming Trump voters for the erosion of democracy.
Democrats didn’t lose elections solely because of misinformation, misogyny, or racism, although these factors played a role. They lost because they were outhustled and failed to persuade enough Americans to support their vision for the country.
Blaming Trump voters as unwise or bigoted might feel like a satisfying conclusion at the moment, but it is a dangerous cop-out that shifts the focus away from the deeper work we must do.Â
It allows us to retreat into an echo chamber of self-righteousness, where we mock and dismiss rather than understand and engage.
True progress demands introspection and accountability; it requires us to recognize where we have fallen short and recommit to strategies that bring people together around a shared vision of justice and equality.Â
By refusing to take the easy way out and embracing the hard work of persuasion and coalition-building, we can shift the tide and create a movement that genuinely represents and uplifts all Americans.
Just a friendly reminder: Nearly 80% of people who call America home did not cast their vote for Donald Trump.
The power to resist those stealing our rights and freedoms doesn’t rest in the hands of politicians or someone else; it resides with us.
It is our collective will, determination, and unity as Americans who believe in liberty and justice for all. It is people power.
Liberty and justice for all must include everyone, not just the wealthy and powerful.
This belief in the power of people—People Power—is what gives me hope. It is a force that transcends individual needs, demanding that we all work together to ensure everyone can thrive. But that requires a commitment to action, civic responsibility, and relentless determination.
We must spend the coming years outhustling the MAGA cult, radical Republicans, and their billionaire backers.
Our persuasion campaigns must be robust, and our grassroots efforts must be so compelling that it doesn’t matter who the candidate is that champions progress and power to the people—they will emulate that vision that resonates with Americans across the political spectrum.
After all, MAGA has spent years building a persuasion apparatus that ultimately crowned Donald Trump as their standard-bearer—a 34-count convicted felon, twice-impeached President, insurrectionist, fraudster, sexual abuser, harasser, predator, female genitalia grabber, defamer, 30,000+ confirmed liar, wife cheater, and a man who disrespects our troops and mocks the vulnerable.
The path forward will not be easy, but it is necessary. Together, we can transform our collective frustration into focused action, outwork those who would oppress us, and create a future where liberty and justice are not just ideals but lived realities. This is the power of people. This is the power of us. Let’s rise to meet this moment with courage, purpose, and unwavering determination.

I needed this commentary before the election. I got overly emotional and over-engaged thinking I could influence people in my very red, very religious state. The day after the election, I posted a meme basically stating that anyone who voted for Trump was racist, misogynist, and homophobes. Within hours, I received a call from my boss because so many people were reaching out to him because 1) they were concerned about me...and 2) what I had posted. Relatives were calling my mom expressing concern about my mental health since I was so desperately wanting Harris to win. Over the weeks, I learned my dearest cousin was very angry and hurt by my post. My mom has played mediator and, once I reach out, my cousin will forgive me. People at work have distanced themselves from me. A group of friends I've had for 20+ years has backed away. Does anyone have suggestions for moving forward? Recovering from these damaged relationships while being true to myself and my beliefs. Everyone just keeps telling me to not talk or share my political beliefs. I do have a tendency to go all in on a hobby, mission, extracurricular activities, etc. so maybe I got it out of my system and won't feel the need to be politically active again.
