📢 They're Trying to Control Our Rights and Resources, But People Power Is Fighting Back
🗽Together, we can champion our rights, freedoms, rule of law, democracy, hold our leaders accountable to the people's will, and inspire voters to make a meaningful difference.
Friends, I’m raising the alarm because while we’re fighting tooth and nail to protect Medicaid—and stop millions from losing their only lifeline—another storm is brewing in the background. And we need to be ready. 1
For decades, Republican lawmakers have tried to paint themselves as defenders of fiscal responsibility. But when you strip away the rhetoric and examine their policy agenda, a disturbing truth emerges: Republicans are once again gearing up to gut two of the most essential programs in American life—Social Security and the Affordable Care Act (ACA)—under the guise of "budget cuts" and "reform." This isn't about saving money. It's about power, control, and an ideological war against programs that help working families thrive.
Republicans’ Long Game: Dismantling Social Security and the Affordable Care Act
In March 2025, Senate Republicans blocked a bill that would have guaranteed protections for Social Security (Sen. Warren, 2025). This wasn't a procedural quibble—it was a declaration of intent. While Republican members of Congress dodge direct answers, their voting record clarifies their agenda: they're keeping Social Security on the chopping block as leverage in future budget negotiations. These aren't hypothetical threats. Republicans routinely propose raising the retirement age, cutting benefits, and privatizing the system, handing over the future of millions to Wall Street.
The psychology behind this move is as calculated as it is cruel. By framing these cuts as necessary sacrifices for future generations, Republican leaders shift blame away from their trillion-dollar tax giveaways and redirect public anger at the very programs that keep seniors, veterans, and people with disabilities out of poverty. It's classic scapegoating: manufacture a crisis, then use it to justify dismantling the safety net.
The War on the ACA Isn't Over—It's Escalating
Despite public support for the Affordable Care Act (also known as the ACA or Obamacare) reaching record highs, Republicans are intensifying their assault on affordable health care. 34-time convicted felon President Trump has promised to "replace" the Affordable Care Act when he was campaigning. That's not a threat, it's a plan already in motion.
Subsidies that make the Affordable Care Act coverage affordable are set to expire at the end of this year. Without Congress stepping in to renew the subsidies, millions could lose access to health insurance, leading to an estimated 3 million Americans becoming uninsured (KFF, 2025). This cliff is not an accident, it's a feature of GOP budget strategy.
States are already panicking as the enhanced ACA tax credits face expiration. Republican-controlled legislatures are refusing to plan for the fallout, even as hospitals brace for a spike in uncompensated care and working families prepare to choose between rent, food, and health insurance (Politico, 2025). And this isn't theoretical: if the subsidies disappear, premiums for many Americans could double, especially for older adults and low-income families (CBS News, 2025).
But again, like the current fight we are seeing over Medicaid, this is not about saving money—it's about sabotaging a popular program so they can say it failed. It's sabotage disguised as "fiscal discipline."
Shrink Government to Reward Billionaires
Here's the bigger picture: Social Security and the Affordable Care Act represent two of the most successful government programs in U.S. history. They work. They're popular. They prove that the government can be a force for good in people's lives. That's exactly why the Republican Party wants them gone.
The Republicans' long-term strategy isn't just about slashing budgets; it's about eroding trust in public institutions. When government programs fail or disappear, it creates a vacuum, and billionaires, private insurers, and Wall Street are too happy to step in. This is a tailor-made void made for the wealthy and powerful to fill. This shifts power away from us, the people, and consolidates it in the hands of the wealthy few.
By shrinking programs like Medicaid, Social Security, and the Affordable Care Act, Republicans aren't just rewriting budgets; they're rewriting our rights, freedoms, rule of law, and democracy.
This Is the Moment to Show Up and Speak Out
The fight for Social Security and the Affordable Care Act isn't a policy debate—it's a fight for the soul of this country. We must speak out, show up, and build power to resist these attacks with everything we've got. We must hold Congress accountable and ensure they permanently extend the Affordable Care Act subsidies. Additionally, we must insist that Social Security be strengthened, not sacrificed.
It's time for everyone who calls America home to show up and speak out: the Republican agenda isn't about fiscal responsibility, it's about controlling our rights and resources. This is billionaire power vs. people power. And we will not sit back while they trample our rights, our freedoms, the rule of law, and our democracy.
Because the promise of America was never about austerity, it was about an opportunity for all.
Enough is enough. America doesn't do kings.
Donald Trump lost the popular vote twice, yet continues to rule as if crowned, defying court orders, targeting immigrants, slashing essential services, and demanding loyalty over law. Now he wants a $100 million military parade on his birthday, using taxpayer money to stage a show of intimidation, not celebration. While tanks roll down Pennsylvania Avenue, Trump and Republicans are gutting Social Security, SNAP, Medicare, Medicaid, and Veterans Services—claiming there's no money for struggling families while handing tax breaks to billionaires. This isn't patriotism. It's authoritarian corruption in broad daylight.
But this moment isn't just about Trump—it's about all of us. If you're fed up with rising costs, civil liberties under assault, and daily attacks on our democracy, this is your moment to rise. Join us for No King's Day, a National Day of Action. Across the country, people will gather in streets, parks, rallies, and protests—showing up and speaking out. We'll declare in hundreds of cities and towns with one voice: Power belongs to the people. We rise not in fear but in solidarity, not for one man, but for all of us.

Shoutout to our changemakers!
I want to take a moment to thank everyone who’s been showing up, speaking out, and taking action to champion progress and power to the people. Your energy fuels this movement!
I also want to let you know about an upcoming change in our programming. We’ll soon be cleaning up our list to focus on those actively engaged in our work. People Power United is a grassroots group rooted in action—and we’re reserving our communications for those who believe in the power of change and take steps to help make it happen.
If you’ve been commenting, sharing posts, signing petitions, sending letters, or attending events—you’re exactly who we want to stay connected with. If someone hasn’t participated in any way, they will be removed from our list.
There are two reasons for this:
Our mission is to make change happen, and that takes action—not just observation.
We’re being penalized by Substack, Google, and other email providers when recipients aren’t engaging. It affects our ability to reach those who do want to be involved. As a grassroots group that does zero fundraising, we need to be able to reach our members.
Thanks so much for your continued support and understanding. Let’s keep building people power—together.
We are not just resisting—we are reclaiming, rebuilding, and rising. Let’s do it together.
With fierce resolve and people power,
