Everyone deserves safety—clean air and water, and communities free from gun violence.

Friends earlier today, President Joe Biden commuted the sentences of 37 out of 40 men on federal death row to life without parole, marking a historic move against capital punishment.
The commutations align with the 2021 federal execution moratorium imposed by his administration. Biden excluded three men involved in terrorism and hate-fueled mass murders, including Robert Bowers, Dylann Roof, and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev. In his statement, Biden condemned the death penalty, citing his experience as a public defender and elected official, and expressed concern about the incoming Trump administration potentially resuming executions.
Advocates and leaders, including Bryan Stevenson of the Equal Justice Initiative and Pope Francis, praised the decision as a critical step toward ending the death penalty. Biden’s actions, more extensive than those of his Democratic predecessors, come after previous inaction on abolishing the death penalty legislatively and amid heightened attention following Trump's reinstatement of federal executions during his first term.
We applaud the efforts of President Biden but also call on him to free Leonard Peltier.
People Power United stands unwaveringly against all forms of hatred and bigotry. Today, I invite you to join me in learning about the heartbreaking case of Leonard Peltier, a Native American activist and member of the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians, who has endured decades of unjust incarceration.
Peltier was charged and convicted for his alleged role in the tragic deaths of two FBI agents during a 1975 shootout at Pine Ridge in South Dakota. Notably, two others involved were acquitted on the grounds of self-defense. Even a former FBI agent who worked on the case has admitted, "We were not able to prove that Mr. Peltier personally committed any offense on the Pine Ridge Reservation."
For 49 years, Leonard Peltier has languished in maximum-security prison, despite mounting evidence and voices asserting his innocence. Leaders of faith and human rights—including Pope Francis, Saint Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, the Dalai Lama, and Coretta Scott King—have joined the chorus calling for his release. Even James H. Reynolds, the U.S. Attorney who prosecuted Peltier, has acknowledged the injustice, stating that his "conviction and continued incarceration is a testament to a time and a system of justice that no longer has a place in our society."
The United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has found that Peltier’s continued imprisonment is rooted in discrimination, concluding he "continues to be detained because he is Native American."
It’s time to right this wrong. Leonard Peltier’s case is not just a personal tragedy—it’s a stain on the ideals of justice we hold dear. Let us stand together and demand his release, sending a powerful message that justice, fairness, and human dignity must prevail in our society. Together, we can help correct this historic injustice.
Can you help us free Leonard Peltier?

The People's March
We all march for different reasons, but we march for the same cause: to defend our rights and our future.
If you believe that decisions about your body should remain yours, that books belong in libraries, not on bonfires, that healthcare is a right, not a privilege for the wealthy; if you believe in the power of free speech and protest to sustain democracy; or if you want an economy that works for the people who power it—then this march is for you.
The People’s March is about one thing: our power.
It’s a bold demonstration of the resilience of resistance:
-We march to unite the people who’ve been the backbone of resistance for generations—and to welcome even more -We march to remind civil servants they answer to us -We march to inspire, energize, and drive change long after the day is done.
This is our moment to remind Americans everywhere — where the power truly lives: with the people.
Let’s make it count.

Re Leonard Peltier: I believe the suggestion to write to the Parole Board is outdated. At this time we need to write/phone/email Biden (& Harris) to ask Biden to pardon Leonard Peltier. Time is short, let’s do this!
