Watch what they do, not what they say
🗽A well informed citizenry is the best defense against tyranny.
Watch what they do, not what they say
"The day we give up holding our leaders accountable, we forfeit freedom and embrace fascism. That day will not be today."
You have heard me say this many times: why?
We must stay vigilant; our rights and freedoms are at risk when we remain silent, look the other way, or make excuses for corrupt politicians.
Tonight is the State of the Union, and like many of you, I will be listening—sort of. I believe in watching what people do, not what they say.Â
We must hold President Biden and the Democrats accountable for their actions and inactions. They, too, are not perfect and partly responsible for the decay of democracy we are seeing. Like many of you, I am troubled by the lack of action on immigration reform. And why the hell are we continuing to give money to Israel when they have contributed to the deaths of over 30,000 people in Gaza1, of which most were innocent women and children? Don't get me started on New Jersey Democratic Senator Bob Menendez2, who is busy racking up corruption indictments, or New Hampshire's Democratic Senator Jeanne Shaheen, who is attempting to kill antitrust laws to satisfy donors.3
Former President Donald Trump needs to be held accountable for his actions-absolutely! And so do corrupt Republicans who embolden his lies, hate, and rhetoric. America deserves a leader who has our best interests at heart, not someone like Trump, who is trying to stay out of jail and evade responsibility for:
92 criminal charges
Been twice impeached
Businesses found guilty of financial crimes
Indicted for stealing classified documents from Americans
Indicted for trying to steal 11,000 votes
Abused power, taking in $7.8 million from foreign entities as President
Packed the Supreme Court and criminalized abortion
Guilty of sexual abuse & defamation
Judge confirmed he committed rape
Reveres fascists: Putin, Orban, & Jong Un
He cheated on his wife
30,000+ lies confirmed
Aided an insurrection
Americans and voters are frustrated. I get it. Both-sideism is a thing because, well, quite frankly, both sides have let folks down. Let’s be absolutely clear: the two sides are not equal. Republicans are actively trying to dismantle democracy and move us toward an authoritarian state.
There is a third side to all of this. It's you and me. For too long, too many in our communities have ignored politics, refused to hold our leaders accountable, and taken little to no action with votes or activism to push for progress.
That was me. Before the 2016 election, I was an apathetic voter. I should have paid more attention to elections or issues. That changed when I saw the lies, hate, and rhetoric that was taking hold in South Florida initiated by Trump and DeSantis. Fascism found me, and I wanted no part of that. And here I am, eight years later. Why?
I firmly believe that bad things happen when good people do nothing.
Many people believe that no one person can affect change. I don't see it that way. All of our small actions can and do affect change.
My job as a mom is to feed, clothe, shelter, educate, and love my child. But I also have a job as an American mom, and that is to fight for my child's future and all children's. Our families and communities depend on us to show up and speak out. We are stronger as a community when we advocate for our rights and freedoms together. We can give up or work for change.
Thanks for being here! I am honored to be with you in this fight for our rights and freedoms. Go be awesome today-because you are!

Mike Johnson's behavior was interesting last night. When the president said something he agreed with, he would nod his head slightly up and down as if nodding "yes." He actually applauded once, but that was when the president was talking about something he was afraid to oppose (motherhood, veterans, I can't remember what exactly.) When the president was talking about something the Dems had done that he wished he could take credit for, he put a sort of pained smirk on his face. When the president was talking about something that was anathema to conservatives (he appears deep down to actually be one) he would shake his head side to side as if saying "no." He must be a lousy poker player.
Absolutely! But it takes the media, our Representatives, and our schools to give us the real stories about history and current events, and those have been failing us for a long time...if you are courageous enough to speak truth to power or the people, then you're the bad guy...Julian Assange, anyone...?
