We Support Greenland, Not Donald Trump
To the people of Greenland,
We stand with you in solidarity on behalf of People Power United, America's largest grassroots organization. We champion progress and power to the people. We are more than 250,000 members strong across all 50 states, and we want to make it clear: we support the people of Greenland—not 34-time convicted felon President-Donald Trump. Almost 80 percent of people who call the United States home did not vote for Trump or his MAGA cult of obedience. His actions do not speak for the majority of us.
The recent attempts by Trump and his Vice President JD Vance to assert control over your land are not only shameful—they are a direct threat to global democracy, sovereignty, and peace. When Trump says, "One way or the other, we're going to get it," he reveals a mindset rooted in colonialism, authoritarianism, and disrespect for self-determination. It is not diplomacy—it is domination.
Greenland, the world's largest island and a territory of Denmark, was granted limited self-rule in 2009, allowing it to manage most of its domestic affairs while Denmark retains control over defense and foreign policy. 1 A growing independence movement has created political tension, with a recent election revealing a split: the leading party favors a gradual path to independence, while the runner-up, which includes a pro-Trump figure, pushes for a faster break. As of January 2024, Greenland has a population of approximately 56,699, with about 35% residing in the capital city of Nuuk.
Let us be crystal clear: Greenland is not for sale. Greenland is not a bargaining chip in a geopolitical game.
And Greenlanders are not pawns to be manipulated by an American strongman looking to expand his militarized empire. Greenland is a land of proud people with a history, culture, and vision for the future. As Prime Minister Mute Bourup Egede declared, "Greenland belongs to the Greenlanders." 2 We agree.
Trump's motivations have nothing to do with goodwill or security. They are driven by greed, power, and a desire to militarize the Arctic.
Resources, Routes, and Ramp-Up of Militarization
Greenland's vast untapped resources—its oil, natural gas, and rare minerals—are what Trump, Vance, and his allies are salivating over. According to the US Geological Survey, the Arctic holds 13% of undiscovered oil and 30% of undiscovered natural gas. 3
And as Arctic sea ice melts, new shipping routes make Greenland an even more strategic prize. "Routes between Asia and Europe, or Asia and the United States, are about 40 percent shorter through the Arctic than either the Suez or Panama Canals, according to the U.S. Naval Institute."
But Trump's focus isn't on sustainability or partnership—it's about extraction and control. This is not leadership. It is imperialism wrapped in a red hat.
The planned visit by JD Vance—despite the Greenlandic government's clear opposition—is an act of aggression. Prime Minister Egede called it "highly aggressive," and rightly so. 4 Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen also condemned it, stating, "You cannot make a private visit with official representatives from another country, when the acting Greenlandic government has made it very clear that they do not want a visit at this time." These are not the actions of allies. They are the moves of a bully.
Vance's arrogant claim that the US wants "We want to reinvigorate the security of the people of Greenland because we think it's important to protecting the security of the entire world" is insulting. 5 Let's be honest: America is not responsible for securing the entire world. That statement reeks of the same paternalistic arrogance that has justified wars, occupations, and overreach for decades. This is not about helping Greenland. This is about Trump's dream of turning your island into a military outpost for his power fantasies.
Many Americans are unaware of Trump's plans to highjack Greenland to create a US missile defense system—nicknamed the "Golden Dome," modeled after Israel's Iron Dome. In an executive order, Trump even directed the Secretary of Defense to finalize plans by March 28. 6 This isn't diplomacy. It's escalation. It's a would-be dictator trying to militarize the Arctic and push smaller nations into submission.
But we see you, Greenland. We hear you. And we support you.
You have every right to chart your own path—toward complete independence, continued self-rule, or any future you choose. That decision should be made by Greenlanders, not by foreign powers acting out of greed and insecurity. We applaud your courage, your clarity, and your commitment to sovereignty.
Democratic governments are not about the forceful takeover of a country or territory- that is what Putin and dictators do. Anyone that stands for democracy and the preservation of a country's self determination must oppose such radical departure from what this country stands and holds dear. We must vehemently oppose such tyrannical tendencies.
To the American people reading this: We must not allow Trump to export his authoritarianism beyond our borders. Lies, misinformation, and billionaire interests have already hijacked our beloved nation. We cannot let that wickedness and poison spread to other nations—especially those on the frontlines of climate change, independence, and cultural preservation.
Donald Trump does not represent the will of the people. He represents the will of the corruption and power. And it is up to us to push back—loudly, proudly, and relentlessly.
To Greenland, we say: Stay strong. You are not alone.
To Trump, we say: You cannot buy people. You cannot bully nations. You will not break democracy.
We support Greenland, not Donald Trump.

As my representative I expect you to speak out and champion bills that strengthen freedom over fascism. I expect you to demand hearings immediately into this national security breach that happened on Signal. I also expect you to speak out against the Greenland invasion by Trump and Vance.
I will work hard to let my family and friends know of your record if you are silent or accepting of this authoritarian takeover by Trump and Elon Musk. I do not support closing of any department or cutting funds that have been allocated for our communities. You should be working to expand programs that help our families.
