Here’s How We Stand Up to Fascism
Fascism thrives in the shadows of apathy, creeping into societies not with dramatic proclamations or tanks in the streets, but through quiet indifference and inaction. It begins when good people fail to challenge injustice, ignore the erosion of rights, and dismiss threats as “it can’t happen here.” History repeatedly shows this pattern: in 1930s Europe, fascist regimes rose not just because of their loudest supporters, but because the silent majority looked away, trusting institutions or others to act.
Despite the reality of the felon Donald Trump becoming president, let us be clear: he is not a leader, nor will he ever embody the qualities of one. It’s important to remember that nearly 80% of those who call America home did not vote for him. This is our call to action: to build a resilient, inclusive movement capable of resisting the autocratic, theocratic ambitions of the wealthy, powerful, and privileged few who seek to tighten their grip on our democracy.
The strength and stability of our democracy depend on the competence, integrity, and values of those entrusted with leadership.
Convicted 34-time felon
and President Donald Trump has nominated Kash Patel to lead the FBI.
We just learned that Kash Patel has been scheduled for his first confirmation hearing in the Senate. Patel is wholly unfit and too extreme to lead the FBI. His lack of impartiality, fixation on political revenge, and promotion of conspiracy theories undermine the integrity required for such a critical position. Patel has advocated for dismantling the FBI’s headquarters, branding it a "Museum of the Deep State," signaling an alarming willingness to weaken essential institutions. His promotion of an "enemies list" and threats against media figures reveal a troubling prioritization of political vendettas over justice. Patel’s extreme partisanship and disregard for democratic norms make him a significant threat to the FBI's mission of impartial law enforcement and public trust. Entrusting him with such power would jeopardize the foundational principles of fairness, accountability, and the rule of law.

Promotes extreme ideas that could erode institutional integrity and public trust.
Driven by Political Revenge, Not Justice
Authored a book naming an "enemies list," prioritizing personal and political vendettas over justice.
Publicly threatened media figures and political opponents of Donald Trump with jail time, undermining democracy and chilling free speech.
Promotes Authoritarian, Not Democratic, Governance
Wrote a book portraying Donald Trump as a king and himself as a wizard, revealing authoritarian and self-aggrandizing tendencies.

When people collectively refuse to accept oppression and take a stand against unjust systems, they expose the cracks in those systems and inspire others to act. Civil disobedience, rooted in nonviolence and moral courage, has the power to disrupt the status quo, amplify marginalized voices, and push societies toward justice and equality. Throughout history, it has been the driving force behind transformative movements that have reshaped the world.

A career in police work made clear the horrors — both to humanity and to public safety — of xenophobic leadership. A person like Patel should run neither a small-town PD or the FBI.
America will regret voting for a criminal Trump. We will all suffer the consequences of his brutal actions.
