📢 Is Fox a News Outlet?
🗽A well informed citizenry is the best defense against tyranny.
Friends, we are living in an age of misinformation and rising authoritarianism. The recent Fox interview of Vice President Kamala Harris left me deeply disturbed. If you have yet to see it, I recommend watching it.
I am proud that our future President Kamala Harris was presidential and open to speaking with a crowd of folks who usually don't agree with her. That's what great leaders do; they seek common ground and a path forward to solve our problems. Unfortunately, the same can not be said of former president and convicted felon Donald Trump - he refuses to debate Kamala Harris again, only appears on conservative media, and threatens those who disagree with him. This brings me to today's topic of conversation- Is Fox a News Outlet?
The interview also highlighted Fox's handling of facts. Harris called attention to Trump's disturbing statements about using the National Guard or military to deal with the "enemy within," which Trump described as "radical left lunatics." In response, Fox's Brett Baier played a video clip where Trump downplayed his own remarks, framing the backlash as an exaggeration and accusing Democrats of threatening him with "phony investigations" and the "weaponization of government." Baier later admitted that the video shown was incomplete—it did not include Trump's actual words that Harris had referenced. However, Baier did not attempt to stop the interview, correct the error, or clarify the missing context, a glaring oversight raising questions about the network's commitment to factual accuracy.
Fox's consistent failure to accurately report or challenge misinformation is not an isolated incident. It reflects a broader behavior pattern that should give us pause. Fox has frequently been criticized for pushing false or misleading narratives, often catering to right-wing interests.
As such, it's worth asking: Is Fox truly a news outlet, or is it an "unreliable source”, as claimed by Wikipedia, and “a purveyor of propaganda and misinformation”, as claimed by Dan Froomkin in Press Watch, and is it's purpose to "bring billions... in for Murdoch, [and]... push a right-wing agenda" as claimed by Eric Alterman in the Nation?
What do Propagandists do?
Spread false or misleading information.
Erode public trust in news agencies, government, and democracy.
Foster "us vs. them" narratives to deepen divides, fuel hostility, and increase polarization.
Discourage critical thinking, mock nuanced thinking, and suppress facts.
Use fear, anger, and other emotions to influence public opinion, rather than relying on facts and reason.
Repeatedly push falsehoods, gradually turning biased narratives into accepted truths over time.
Focus on trivial or exaggerated matters to divert attention from more significant problems.
Foster a culture of unquestioning loyalty, making it easier for authoritarian figures to rise to power.
Marginalize or demonize minority groups, reinforcing harmful stereotypes and discrimination.
Present partial truths, omit facts, use false equivalences, and rely on circular reasoning.
Fox’s actions—whether through omission, selective reporting, or outright misrepresentation—raise serious concerns about its role in undermining democratic values.
Propaganda poses serious dangers to our rights, freedoms, democracy, and the rule of law by distorting reality and manipulating public opinion. When citizens are misled by false or selective information, they are less likely to engage in critical democratic actions, such as voting or holding their representatives accountable. Propaganda obscures important issues, like climate change or public health crises, by spreading misinformation that fosters denial and distrust. This manipulation erodes collective action and weakens the foundations of democratic participation, making it easier for authoritarianism to take root.
A functioning democracy relies on an informed electorate, but propaganda undermines this by distorting facts, suppressing critical thinking, and fostering division. Through selective reporting and the omission of key facts, propaganda outlets create a false understanding of important issues, leaving citizens vulnerable to making decisions based on fear or emotional manipulation rather than reason and evidence.

The Fox Propaganda Network has been intentionally using lies, fear mongering, and hate to manipulate ignorant and gullible people to vote for the Republican party for almost 3 decades. The network has torn apart families and friendships, incited violence, divided our nation, and obstructed any hope of meaningful change regarding gun control, hate speech, voting and civil rights, and climate change, to name a few. We Americans should be demanding that this fake news outlet be shutdown permanently...
