My fellow Americans and fellow community members who call the United States of America home,
I've said it before—the United States is at war, and we, the people, are under attack.
In the past, Presidents have used the State of the Union to unite the nation, calling on Americans to come together and confront our most significant challenges. It is an event meant to rise above division and seek solutions that serve us all. Last night, however, was anything but that. It was an abuse of power—an outright assault on our communities and our democracy.
Trump's corruption and incompetence thrive because of the Republican cult of obedience—too fearful to challenge him, knowing that dissent means being threatened, smeared, or destroyed.
However, We, the people, are not afraid; we will speak out, show up, and build power.
We stand at a historic crossroads—our choices today will shape our democracy, economy, healthcare, environment, and the well-being of future generations.
Last night, you may have heard Trump address a joint session of Congress, or you might have chosen to ignore the speech. But let's be clear:
🔴 It was a web of lies, distractions, and fear-mongering.
🔴 It painted a fantasy that ignores the struggles of our families.
🔴 It served the billionaire class—NOT the people who call the United States home.
Here's what Trump refused to acknowledge, and here is the actual state of affairs:
60% of Americans are living paycheck to paycheck.
Inflation continues to climb—food, energy, medical care, and transportation costs are still increasing.
800,000 people are homeless.
Millions are drowning in medical debt while Big Pharma and insurance CEOs rake in record profits.
Housing costs have skyrocketed.
Trump taxes, also known as tariffs, will also increase prices and cause job layoffs
The richest 1% owns more wealth than the bottom 90% combined.
The Republican Agenda: Corporate Rule Over People
Here is the reality we are facing:
🔹 Economic Injustice: Since 1975, nearly $80 trillion has been siphoned from the bottom 90% of Americans to the top 1%. If income distribution had remained the same as in 1975, the median household income would be double what it is today.
🔹 Wage Stagnation: The minimum wage remains at a poverty level, forcing millions to work two or three jobs to survive. Meanwhile, the three richest Americans hold more wealth than 170 million people combined.
🔹 Healthcare Crisis: The U.S. remains the only major nation on Earth that does not guarantee healthcare as a human right. Millions are uninsured or underinsured, and 1 in 4 Americans cannot afford their prescriptions—while pharmaceutical companies make record profits.
🔹 Housing Crisis: Rents are skyrocketing, home ownership is out of reach, and homelessness is on the rise. Over 20 million Americans spend more than half their income on housing. Corporate landlords exploit families, while billionaires buy up entire neighborhoods.
🔹 Retirement Insecurity: Nearly half of older Americans have no retirement savings—yet Trump and his Republican allies are plotting cuts to Social Security under the guise of "reform."
🔹 Climate Emergency: The past decade has been the hottest in recorded history. Wildfires, hurricanes, and floods have devastated communities. Yet Trump calls climate change a hoax and prioritizes corporate polluters over our planet's future.
🔹 Democracy Under Threat: The billionaire class, aided by right-wing extremists, continues to erode our democracy. Dark money floods our elections, corporate interests override the will of the people, and Trump's administration is nothing less than an oligarchy—a government of, by, and for billionaires.
While Trump pretends to care about working Americans, his policies tell a different story:
Trump is planning cuts to Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and food assistance while ignoring rising inequality, the climate crisis, and corporate greed—the very forces destroying our economy. At home, his policies worsen economic suffering, making life harder for working families. Abroad, he aligns with dictators instead of standing for democracy and justice. And worst of all? He openly embraces authoritarianism—cozying up to Putin, attacking the free press, and trying to dismantle the very institutions that keep our democracy alive.
This is not leadership. It's tyranny. This is a direct assault on the American people.
ENOUGH.
The real State of the Union is not what Trump says—it's what we, the people, experience daily.
A Vision for the Future: A Government That Works for the People
We do not have to accept a government that serves only wealthy, powerful, or privileged.
Here's what we must fight for:
✅ An Economy That Works for All—tax the billionaire class and close corporate loopholes.
✅ Fair Wages & Workers' Rights—raise the minimum wage to a robust wage, strengthen unions, and pass the PRO Act.
✅ Medicare for All—healthcare as a human right and a 50% reduction in prescription drug costs.
✅ Affordable Housing—build millions of affordable homes, rein in rent hikes, and end corporate landlord exploitation.
✅ Expanded Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid—lift the cap on taxable income for the wealthy to ensure retirement security.
✅ Free Public College & Student Debt Relief—cancel student debt and make higher education accessible to all.
✅ Climate Action—invest in clean energy, end fossil fuel subsidies, and create millions of good-paying green jobs.
✅ Democracy Reform—overturn Citizens United, end dark money in politics, and ensure fair elections.
✅ Reproductive Freedom—protects women's right to decide about their bodies.
✅ Stand with our allies and keep our promises by leading the world as a champion for liberty and justice for all.
The Time to Act Is NOW
Fascism doesn't take over with tanks in the streets—it thrives in apathy. It grows when good people choose inaction and dismiss threats as "it can't happen here." Every moment of silence allows authoritarianism to take root.
But we are not powerless. We are the majority.
Unity is our greatest weapon. Unity is how we protect our communities and stand up to a bully narcissist like 34-time convicted felon Donald Trump.
Fascism survives by dividing us—by exploiting differences, sowing hate, and isolating communities. But when we stand together, we dismantle those tactics. An attack on one of us is an attack on all of us.
We've seen it before. We've fought back before, and we will do it again.
Many of us can do one or two simple things a day for advocacy, but we need more people taking action.
The longer the power of the people stays on the sideline, the stronger Trump, Musk, and Putin grow.
If we want to protect the future of this country, we must double down on our organizing efforts to build people power in every city and every state in our nation.
We must show up, speak out, and build power to replace these corrupt politicians.
By taking action, holding leaders accountable, and advocating for dignity, respect, and opportunity, we can build an America that lives up to the values of liberty and justice for all, not just the wealthy, powerful, or privileged.
Remember, we are the heroes we have been waiting for!
And together, we will win. Because when we fight together, we win together.
