Calling BS: Live-chat and Prebuttal to Trump's Address
A better Tuesday and country are possible! As Trump hawks an hour of lies and dangerous directives to Congress, MoveOn is providing an antidote: a livestream event with Senators Chris Murphy and Brian Schatz, host Akilah Hughes, and more elected officials, leaders, and advocates who will offer a "prebuttal" to Trump's address and a live chat during his speech.
Community, camaraderie, clarity, along with some comedy from an impressive group of lawmakers, leaders, comedians, commentators, and people-powered friends who'll give you the inspiration and tools you need to fight back against Trump and Elon's billionaire takeover.
Who'll be there?
Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), Senator Brian Schatz (D-HI), Senator Ed Markey (D-MA), Senator Angela Alsobrooks, (D-MD), Governor Matt Meyer, Michigan Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II, Akilah Hughes, Wajahat Ali, Jay Willis, Lauren Bishop, Michael Ian Black, and more!
Tuesday, March 4th from 8:15 PM to 10:30 PM Eastern.
Can My Activism Help the Freedom Over Fascism Movement?
Does my activism make a difference? Is it worth my time? My answer is unequivocal—yes, your activism matters. Here’s why:
Grassroots activism is a powerful force that can shape the direction of a nation. History has shown us that when people organize, they can drive monumental change. But change doesn’t happen in isolation—it requires collective effort. Many of us can take one or two small actions each day for advocacy, but we need more people to step up. The longer the power of the people remains on the sidelines, the stronger figures like Trump, Musk, and Putin become. If we want to protect the future of our country, we must double down on our organizing efforts to build people power in every city and every state across the nation.
We must show up, speak out, and take action to replace corrupt politicians who prioritize their power over the well-being of the people. By holding leaders accountable and advocating for dignity, respect, and opportunity for all, we can create an America that upholds liberty and justice for everyone, not just the wealthy, powerful, or privileged.
Grassroots activism makes a profound impact. The energy, passion, and determination of even a small group of people can change the course of a nation. Unfortunately, we are witnessing this firsthand with the rise of the MAGA movement. While I strongly oppose the Project 2025 agenda and the MAGA mission to dismantle our rights, freedoms, democracy, and rule of law, we must acknowledge the effectiveness of their grassroots efforts. Across the country, MAGA activists have mobilized voters with relentless energy and focus, county by county, shifting political allegiances. When I first saw a Washington Post map depicting these shifts—red arrows marking movement from Democrats to Republicans—I wasn’t surprised. It confirmed what I had long suspected: MAGA’s grassroots organizing is gaining traction, even in traditionally blue states.
This surge didn’t happen overnight. It is the result of years of groundwork, coalition-building, and voter persuasion at the local level. While Democratic leaders and organizations scramble for explanations, the lesson is clear: grassroots activism wields enormous influence. And no, I’m not referring to last-minute GOTV (Get Out the Vote) efforts, like the Harris-Walz campaign. By the time Kamala Harris entered the race, it was too late. The grassroots enthusiasm necessary to energize voters simply wasn’t there.
Over the past few years, many spaces have spent more time debating policy differences than building coalitions rooted in shared purpose and determination. Yes, there are crucial coalitions doing critical work—I know because People Power United is part of some of them. But in my opinion, too many lack the grassroots energy that defines real, transformative movements. Grassroots activism isn’t about top-down directives. It’s about volunteers—ordinary people—investing their time, talent, and treasure into causes they believe in, forging a better tomorrow.
The problem is that much of our past organizing has been dictated by a few funders or organizations that fail to connect with us. As a result, many struggle to inspire volunteers and build authentic grassroots energy. In contrast, true grassroots activism starts with individuals—neighbors, friends, and coworkers—coming together to tackle shared challenges. It is nimble, dynamic, and deeply personal, proving that change often begins not in the halls of power but in the streets, kitchens, and living rooms of everyday people who refuse to accept the status quo.
So, back to the original question: does my activism make a difference? Absolutely. History shows us that when good people do nothing, bad things happen. Grassroots movements—whether fighting for civil rights, women’s suffrage, or environmental protections—have always relied on the collective power of individuals taking small, meaningful actions. Your efforts, no matter how modest they may seem, contribute to the larger wave of change.
Some argue that one person alone cannot make a difference. I reject that notion. Every small action—attending a meeting, having a conversation, signing a petition, or volunteering—creates ripples. Those ripples inspire others, building the momentum necessary to drive progress.
We’ve seen the impact of grassroots organizing on the other side. MAGA’s movement, despite its destructive agenda, proves that activism matters. Now it’s our turn to harness our energy for good—to build coalitions rooted in justice, equity, passion, authenticity, and determination. When we invest in grassroots activism, we’re not just changing the present; we are shaping a future where freedom, justice, and democracy thrive.
Let’s commit to showing up, speaking out, and building power by proving that our actions matter—because they do.
Protect Our Kids
The Trump administration is gutting public education to fund tax breaks for billionaires—cutting special education, literacy and math programs, career training, student loans, and even Medicaid. That’s why on Tuesday, March 4, parents, educators, students, and community allies are taking action nationwide to say: No more cuts!
Trump’s plan to dismantle the U.S. Department of Education would strip 26 million students in poverty of essential services and deprive 7.5 million students with disabilities of special education support. It would eliminate career and technical education for millions, jeopardizing their future job prospects. Slashing Medicaid and student loans could take healthcare from over 80 million people and make college unaffordable for millions of working-class families.
We’re calling on lawmakers to strengthen—not weaken—our public schools and protect the vital resources that children and families depend on. But we need your voice to turn up the pressure!
