The strength of a nation is not its ability to fight wars but rather its ability to prevent them. - Gene Roddenberry
The greatest evil is war.
We Are Now at War in the United States
The United States is in crisis. Not a crisis of foreign invasion, but a war within—a war against democracy, justice, and the rule of law. Donald Trump, a 34-time convicted felon and our President (but in no way a leader) is at the helm and leading the attack as the Modern War Institute at West Point points out:
"War happens when a society or its leader is unaccountable, ideological, uncertain, biased, or unreliable." 1
His actions and those of his enablers have thrown our nation into turmoil, eroding the principles that have long defined America. The casualties of this war are not just policies or institutions but real people whose lives are being upended every day.
The Human Toll of an Unaccountable Leader
For three years, Ukraine has fought valiantly against Russian aggression, but now, the United States policy, as defined by Trump, is to abandon them. Trump threatens to withdraw U.S. support unless Ukraine surrenders half of its mineral resources—a blatant act of extortion. 2 Meanwhile, at the United Nations, the U.S. has aligned itself with Russia and North Korea, signaling support for Putin's violent expansionism. 3
The situation in the Middle East is equally dire. The fragile cease-fire between Israel and Hamas is on the brink of collapse, and Trump has endorsed the displacement of Palestinians in Gaza. 4 Tanks now roll into the West Bank, deepening an already devastating humanitarian crisis. 5
At home, Trump's war on the vulnerable continues. Undocumented asylum seekers, including children 6, have been denied due process, some adults exiled to Guantanamo Bay 7, or deported to third-party countries with no hope of legal recourse. 8 Families are being torn apart, their futures obliterated by xenophobic policies that demonize those seeking refuge.
Trump's assault on government institutions has crippled essential services. Thousands of IRS employees 9 and national park workers 10 have been laid off. Top legal minds in the Army, Navy, and Air Force have been fired. The Federal Aviation Administration faces severe layoffs, endangering air travelers. Even as measles and bird flu outbreaks rise, research and public health staff are being cut, leaving Americans defenseless against preventable diseases.
The Trump administration has also fired multiple top Pentagon officials, including the chairman of the Joint Chiefs, the head of the Navy, and the vice chair of the Air Force. The dismantling of military leadership leaves our nation vulnerable to foreign and domestic threats.
A Dictator in the Making
Trump's authoritarian grip tightens with each passing day. He plans to detain undocumented migrants in military sites across the U.S., turning our US prison system into a tool of mass incarceration.11 News organizations critical of his administration are being barred, suppressing free press and silencing dissent. 12 His Department of Justice dismissed charges against New York Mayor Eric Adams, seemingly in exchange for assistance in Trump's deportation plans. 13
Elon Musk and his cryptocurrency empire have infiltrated various government agencies, granting private entities access to sensitive American data. Trump has seized control of cultural institutions like the Kennedy Center and gutted USAID, putting global stability at risk. He has fired nuclear security workers, laid off thousands of civil service employees, and frozen funding for grants that small businesses and farmers depend on. Meanwhile, inflation has surged, and the stock market has erased all gains since he took office. The working class bears the brunt of these economic disasters while the wealthy elite continue to amass power.
The People's Fight for Democracy
The writing is on the wall: Vladimir Putin has secured an asset in Trump, Elon Musk, and many members of the Republican Party. Every day, America drifts further from democracy, resembling the authoritarian regimes of Russia and North Korea. This war is not waged with bombs and bullets but through legislation, policy, and institutional sabotage from 34-time convicted felon President Trump, MAGA Republicans in Congress, and billionaires like Elon Musk who are destroying our rights, freedoms, democracy, and the rule of law by attacking our country from within.
The fight for our rights, freedoms, and democracy is here and now. This is not alarmism—it is reality. When leaders are unaccountable and biased, we all suffer. As members of People Power United, we stand against hatred, bigotry, and discrimination. We are the representatives of justice, advocating for a society that values equality and freedom over the creeping force of fascism.
If you remain silent, you are complicit. Too many leaders evade accountability, and many Americans enable them through inaction. Democracy functions only when leaders represent the people, and the people hold them accountable. Republicans in Congress—and some Democrats—seek to rule, not serve. They champion a 34-time convicted felon, an insurrectionist, a serial liar, a fraudster, and a man who has mocked the disabled, sexual assaulter, defamer, and someone who insulted our troops. This is not leadership; it is tyranny.
If you are not speaking out, showing up, and building power to replace these corrupt figures, you are part of the problem. We must demand accountability, and if ignored, we must work to vote them out, regardless of party affiliation. Complaints without action elicit complicity. This war for democracy will not be won with passive hope but organized, relentless action.
I have seen the power of collective resistance. Now is the time to harness that power, to share information, to mobilize our communities, and to stand as an unbreakable force against those who seek to dismantle our democracy. The stakes have never been higher. We are now at war in the United States, and we must fiercely advocate to preserve our democracy.

📢 We're fighting fascism, and this is how we reclaim our power! 💥
Grassroots activism is a powerful force that can shape the direction of a nation.
Many of us can do one or two simple things a day for advocacy, but we need more people taking action.
The longer the power of the people stays on the sideline, the stronger Trump, Musk, and Putin grow.
If we want to protect the future of this country, we must double down on our organizing efforts to build people power in every city and every state in our nation.
We must show up, speak out, and build power to replace these corrupt politicians.
By taking action, holding leaders accountable, and advocating for dignity, respect, and opportunity for all, we can build an America that lives up to the values of liberty and justice for all, not just the wealthy, powerful, or privileged.
Here are some ways we can take action:
We will resist through rallies, protests, general strikes, boycotts, and 198 acts of civil disobedience, targeting anyone who enables or attacks our communities with oppression, injustice, hatred, and bigotry.
We will speak out, show up, and build power.

Brilliant analysis. I've been saying we need to declare "war" for some time and gotten a lot of push back. I have reposted your article in FB. Thanks so much for your work.
